should Dr_Lou_Natic be allowed back to the forum, should his ban be lifted or atleast let him come back under a new name?

maybe if he gets enough votes they will consider letting him back.

peace.

Nobody has suggested any reason why Lou Natic ought to be allowed back.

Is this just a popularity contest?

he should be allowed back for 2 simple reasons.

1) he contributed a distinct viewpoint to the forums, with witt and brutal accuracy of how nature works.

2) he gave valid reasoning behind his arguments and debate, he backed up what he said he was not a troll just spouting nonesense.

people just conflict with his views alot because he is not mainstream. his behaviour was no different from how alot of other members act towards certain people, he said anti-semetic comments yes, but is that any different from the anti-christian comments made by 30% of this community? it seems we have double standards here james, we are allowed to bash certain people but not others. no matter how anybody conflicts with what i am saying, the truth remains clear to see, i am basicaly allowed to bash a christian but not a muslim or a jew.

I don't know. He is a total *sshole that really never makes a valid point. I guess I simply don't think he is really trolling like some of the other members around here. There are real trolls crawling around who shall remain unamed. They are the weird band of hyenas that enter threads, urinate on it, and depart. I'm not amused.

It is very hard to give a reason why he ought to be allowed back when it is hard to understand why he was banned in the first place.

M*W: Society is such that everywhere we go we have to be so politically correct. Sciforums used to be a place where we could come and be ourselves, say what was on our minds, without any serious repercussions. Now, our every word is being monitored, and we're all walking on cyber eggshells. Members come and go. Instead of banning some of the members, why not just put them on Ignore? That would be more fair to everyone involved. If a member is put on Ignore by several others, he/she will get the message and natural attrition will occur. I believe that is the fairest method of all. Let the members have more say in a democratic process through the Ignore function. Lately, sciforums seems to be overly moderated, infractions are being issued like candy, and banning occurs at the drop of a hat. If we must be so PC here, we'll all be on the same PC page, discussion and debate would fall by the wayside, and sciforums would become boring a waste of time.

Dr Lou was sciforums 'Apocalypse'.

Likewise, Brian is the sciforum 'Magneto', and James is (naturally) Professor X (or is it J?)

...he said anti-semetic comments yes, but is that any different from the anti-christian comments made by 30% of this community?

This is a subtle point. It really comes down to whether posts are attacking a point of view (philosophy, political position) or a person or group of people. Also, it depends on whether the thing that is being attacked is within the power of the attacked person to change.

Thus, an important difference between, say, a rabid atheist attacking a Christian is that, in principle, a Christian can decide to reject Christianity. Christianity is a system of thoughts and beliefs. On the other hand, being Jewish or black is a matter of descent. A person cannot suddenly decide to cease being black and start being white, or vice versa, no matter how much they might want to. And a Jewish person cannot cease being a Jew. If their mother was Jewish, then by definition they are Jewish and there's no changing that.

It is very hard to give a reason why he ought to be allowed back when it is hard to understand why he was banned in the first place.

He was banned for repeated and quite vitriolic racism and anti-semitism.

He was banned for repeated and quite vitriolic racism and anti-semitism.
And homophobia. Don't forget the homophobia.

This is why he should be allowed back. He was so vitriolic that it was impossible to take him seriously. He's a cartoon character, and an extremely entertaining one.

My very, very good friend Killjoy is of the opinion that the moderation here is based on whim. I don't agree, I think moderators' decisions are too consistent; too predictable; not whimsical enough. I'd like to see moderation big and capricious enough to, on the one hand, accommodate Lou on account of the vitality he brings to the forum and, on the other, to ban DarksidZz on account of his endless puerile polls, or his offensive shorts, or [insert randomly-generated reason here].

Moderation in accord with common sense and the Sciforums spirit, in other words.

Regarding DarksidZz, I polled the membership on what they wanted done with him. The consensus was that the majority apparently loves him and his multiple polls. He hasn't broken any rules, the majority want him to stay, so he stays.

In contrast, there was no need to poll anybody on Dr Lou. He clearly breached forum posting rules, over and over.

Actually, for whatever it's worth, the consensus appeared to be indifference, followed by I want his polls dramatically curtailed .

I think this is complete crap.

Why do you associate Jewishness with an ethnicity? Jews are ethnically similar to the people of the middle east, most notably the Kurds and Palestinians; this kind of thinking is separatist and divisive in my opinion.

I'm just going by how Jewish people define themselves. Judaism is passed down via the maternal line. According to the Jews. Not according to me.

I think Lou wouldn't have been banned if he hadn't, as has so many others, fled the forums. He only comes back now to put in funny little jabs and doesn't really participate in a meaningful way. I think it's sort of a form of protest.

There is a movement intended to spur the forums on to new greatness, we'll have to see what happens with it. As always, the nazis come out of the woodwork desiring banning, order, an end to all the silliness. These people think that creativity can be mandated from an order from above.

Ridiculous.

If the forums are to improve, then it must come from the ground up, not from the top down. This is basic stuff.

Lou, while acerbic, was a witty motherfucker. And, when he actually contributed more than just funny interjections, he spurred on some good content.

It's a shame that he's gone now.

????

I don't think being racist is against the rules. If he is harassing others with racist comments, that is probably a violation.
