Why do young people ruin their lives at such a young age by getting pregnant? Do they not think of their future; schooling and career?

A friend of ours told us a few days ago that their daughter is pregnant. She just turned 18 and purposely got pregnant to try to keep her boyfriend.

I just don't get why someone would want to blow the rest of their life at such a young age. You hear about ones from 10-12 years old getting pregnant. One of the saddest situations I remember was a guy I went to high school with that had a son at the age of 15. At the 15 year reunion, he was a grandfather.

Young people are less experienced about life and make mistakes. That's why sex education and access to birth control is so important. Unfortunately, many cultures have a backwards attitude about sex.

Most of the girls I knew that got pregnant young were from neglectful homes. All they wanted was for someone to love them and to have someone to love.
In this day of AIDS, I have no understanding of why they get pregnant.

What "ruins" one's life in having a child? Most people consider their children the greatest things in their lives. It is also biologically sensible.

Society ought to adapt to young parents. We need to revert back to where it was socially acceptable for teenagers to marry and raise children well.

    Orleander:

AIDS is a comparatively rare disease. If you're not a homosexual or a drug user or extremely promiscious, your chances are pretty low of getting AIDS.

I don't care how low it is. Its a fatal disease you can prevent the same way you can prevent a pregnancy. If getting knocked up doesn't worry you, does dying?

I suppose you think the same as teenagers. "It won't happen to me"

:bugeye: It may not ruin your life, but it certainly ruins any plans you have for it.

Children shouldn't be compared to a disease, but that's how many women see them today.

That's more like plan Z, after every other alternative has failed. Thankfully, almost no women in this country have to seek something as risky as a coat hanger abortion.

I could not have said it better! :bravo:

I think Kenny Chesney's Song There Goes My Life sums it up perfectly for young people having children.

But society can't without more socialism. Young people without a proper education cannot make a decent income.

Not really. People have productive lives with children. Furthermore, what plans can be "higher" than children? When people always say that children are the best part of their life?

I will say with certainty that my children are the best things I have ever made or been involved in their creation.

That being said, I sometimes miss the life I had before they happened along. Hell, I miss sleep and being able to eat a meal without having a part whatever we're eating for dinner flung at my head or the walls or mushed through tiny little fingers (and sometimes toes) and then rubbed all over their faces or heads.. try getting mushed up potato or pasta out of baby hair and you'll know what I'm talking about. Ugh.. I'd like to be able to wear white clothes again, without ending up looking like a veritable rainbow of various foods and drinks within less than an hour.

You made a good point. "What plans can be higher than children"? Hence the issue with teenage pregnancies. Once they have children, their choices become very restricted. Any and all their plans for their future has to factor in its effects on their child or children.

Yes, there are definitely some downsides. Clearly, you have to sacrifice much. But as the cliche goes "no pain, no gain". And as you yourself attested: It is worth it.

People have children either by accident, or because they have nothing else to do.
