View Full Version : "You Are Not Logged In" ???
Baron Max 12-09-05, 12:44 PM If I make a long, involved response to a post, I often (most of the time!), can't post it because I get a message that says I've failed to log in???? I.e., it seems that if I don't post soon enough, like a time limit or something, I get UN-logged in. What the hell's going on?
It's not like it's a major issue, but it becomes a pain in the butt when I forget to copy it, then re-log in ....I lose all of that "valuable" effort! ;=)
And please keep in mind that I don't know much about computers ...I'm getting pretty good at turning it "ON/OFF", however! :)

Haven't had it happen to me, Max, but I'm curious to see what you might be told. I guess we're waiting for a Mod or someone official to answer.

Harlequin 12-14-05, 12:01 AM Do you have anything disabling cookies in your browser setup? Using firefox for example with cookies disabled?
Although from what you're saying it seems you're getting a session timeout somehow.

Yeah, exactly! But I don't know anything about cookies and stuff or firefox.
And as to the "remember me", I don't like computers to remember me, so I always check "off" the box, ...i.e., "do NOT remember me".
I've only had it happen when I'm typing a long, involved post or reply. And it just seems that I'm timed-out ...and if so, isn't that something that the site does, rather than my own computer?
This is not a major issue, but it's like lots of things in life ....it can be annoying as hell.
By the way, I'm using Windows 98 Special Edition.

tablariddim 12-14-05, 07:19 AM I had a lot of problems with W98, I don't know if that is what is actually causing your problems, but you'd probably be better off with W XP Proffessional.
kazakhan 12-14-05, 07:28 AM By the way, I'm using Windows 98 Special Edition.
A version just for you Baron ;)
It's Second Edition. I was just about to suggest you upgrade until I realised I'm posting from Win98SE too :o
leopold99 12-14-05, 08:36 AM i think that is second edition baron
anyway here is something else:
click start slide up to settings then click on control panel
in the window that opens kook for dial-up networking. double click on it
right click on the connection you use to connect to your isp
on the menu that opens slide down to properties and click on it.
on the window that opens look for dialing at the top and click on it
look for idle disconnect and disable it(uncheck the box).
click ok and close the stuff you opened.
you can also try beating your head on the wall
James R 12-15-05, 12:04 AM I think the simplest solution is to tick the "remember me" box at sciforums, which will set a permanent cookie on your computer so you don't get logged out automatically.
If you're still worried about somebody using your account, or something, then just hit the "log out" button at the bottom of the main screen, and that will clear the cookie so that you'll need to log in again next time you visit.
Dr Lou Natic 12-15-05, 12:46 AM Yeah, I have to do it at work, you can't not tick the remember me box, but just log out when you're finished and it shouldn't remember you.

If I make a long, involved response to a post,
There's the problem. The server hasn't adapted to you making long, involved responses. It's such a rare event!
Just kidding! :P

Too damned many words just confuse the issue ...not to mention getting myself completely confused causing me to begin to agree on something which I disagree! :)

leopold99 01-28-06, 06:35 AM since upgrading to wireless broadband i noticed i no longer have a problem like that.
so apparently it has something to do with dial up
QuarkMoon 01-28-06, 06:49 AM Type faster.
Cottontop3000 01-28-06, 07:13 AM I wish you would get confused about racism.
Guilty_Biscuit 02-17-06, 04:20 PM The same thing happens with me. I'm sure I'll get used to copying before posting though.
DAMN... this post was about 1000 words long but I forgot to copy it and now I can't be bothered typing it again.
