What gives? Not that I mind but there must be a catch? The free mail account went from 4mb capacity to 100mb and is still free....How is Yahoo affording this 96mb bump up?

Yup..just went to check my mail and BAM 100mb capacity with a better GUI. The attachment size has also been bumped to 10mb. Too good to be true so I am leery.

I have a Yahoo account and I've been keeping track of this for some time. There's no catch to this 100 mb storage limit. It's all free and ligitamately yours at no extra cost. How they can allow this extra storage for every user is primarily due to the advancements in computer data storage technology ... given that we're far beyond floppy drives now

They're upping the limit because Google is coming out with a free email service called Gmail that will have 1Gb of free space. It will be searchable, and will be supported by 'adwords'. Your emails are automatically scanned for keywords to display targeted ads.
The paid version of Yahoo's email is supposed to be 'virtually unlimited'.
    EDIT/UPDATE, make that 2Gb.

Searchable? People can google your email? That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard. Maybe google is evil...

No...an automated search program scans you e-mail and sends you targeted e-mail. Your e-mail can't be searched by others but the user will have a search engine to to sift through 1gb of e-mail....because we are lazy and will not clean up.

Ahh, that sounds better. Still somewhat of an invasion of privacy, but I guess that's what you have to trade if you want 1 gb of online storage. Hell, just start emailing yourself files to save eh?

No, it's only searchable by you, not other people.

yahoo always was better in mail. they gave you free calender & notepad functions, too. And, yahoo had 4 mb of storage memory whereas hotmail only gave you 2 mb.

I signed up for yahoo mail about two months ago. I'm quite pleased I did.

I have a Yahoo! email account. I was freaked out when I suddenly had 100MB.

I told my frinds and they think it is a temporary marketing scheme then they will set the accounts back to 4MB (I had 6MB) and make you pay for the 100 MB account.

THey could just be trying to get in fromt of the crap hotmail.

I am also told about a condition called Freaking without cause!

Chill out fellas,I have a Yahoo! account,i believe they have upped the ante in race of storage and E-MAIL sending,Gmail had just announced 1000MB so 100 MB of Yahoo! is prob going to wake Hotmail Up too...Times have changed,Data today simply is too much to be sent on these small e-Mail account limits, similiar problems have been experienced in all other fields. Its the Information Age remember?

    bye!
