    Singer Doherty released from jail

Doherty said prison life involved 'a lot of gangsters'

Singer Pete Doherty has been released from prison after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence stemming from drug and driving offences.

The Babyshambles frontman had been in Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London.

In October, he got a suspended sentence for driving while uninsured and with no MoT while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis.

Doherty was then sent to jail in April after missing appointments with his probation officers.

His supervision order required him to make regular visits to court for progress reports, as well as take part in a drug rehabilitation programme.

    Drug test

On leaving Wormwood Scrubs, the former Libertines star told reporters he was glad to be out, and said he was looking forward to drinking a rum and coke and spending time with his cats.

He showed the media a certificate confirming he had passed a drugs test while serving his sentence.

When asked if he had taken drugs in jail, he replied: "Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with, with the overcrowding and the medical facilities.

"Although they do their best - they are good, they can't really cater for the average junkie."

The musician also described life in prison as "a lot of gangsters and Radio 4", and borrowed a reporter's phone to arrange a lift.

After he was jailed, Doherty was forced to postpone a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which would have been his biggest solo show yet.

The show is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date.

The singer would have missed his scheduled appearance at the Glastonbury Festival had he served the full sentence.

i have to think to myself, if it was one of us normal folk in jail would we be out early, or would we have to do the whole sentence?

I got threatened with prison sentance and ended up getting fined and tagged till june 20th (fri an sat only), why
For hitting a man who took a swing at me whilst we were trying to protect his kids from getting hurt by him(he was to drunk to look after himself let alone a 5 & 7 yr old).... (we were freinds) after my housemate PHAROAHMOAN drove his kids back to their mothers house we started getting death threats within 90mins so I went round his house and slapped him once on the side of his head...

Amy whinehouse gets high on crack attacks someone an gets f*ckall there is no justice in the UK no wonder the prisons are full.

So she acts like a tough girl but is a pussy in reality! If you can't handle the time, then don't do the crime! 29 days isn't much and she will be back using heroin again ASAP. She needs a longer sentence to prevent her from using drugs but she is being pampered by the justice department. She needs help but none of her friends seems to be doing anything to help her. Great friends she has, no one picked her up at the prison to take her home!

Holy shit that's harsh man. My friend's Dad tried doing almost exactly the same and the other bloke hit him, he fell to the floor, smacked his head and died. Good on you for stepping in. It's fucking ridiculous that we have to even second guess whether to help someone these days. I'm just sorry you got punished for being a decent fella.

I admit that I should not have gone over....yet the severity of the punishment is not universal,i.e if I was a 'tacky crappy heroin/crack addicted pop star' then I would have been let off....?

Its harsh what happened to your dads friend, sometime s people react to situations which we do not usualy come across yet are punished for any incorrect actions....it is truely woeful.

And these antics are promoted to our young teenage children, who idolize them as 'Stars' as that is the way radio 1 and media promote them (as they are paid money to ) yet they do not hold themselves responsible for any consequences on a young teenagers psyche..it disgust's me......It seems money does not buy intelligence or common sense just the freedom to resemble morons to the adult viewer

It's stupid how being famous can offer more benefits to things that we should actually consider worse for them. A man can get put in jail for possession of cocaine. when a celeb gets caught its all over the papers saying about it kind of idolising them. It goes to show that those in the limelight are clearly considered as above everyone else.
