The Burj Dubai is around 2000 feet tall now.
Here's a detailed website on it : http://www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com/

How would you like to be a construction worker near the top ?

We climb on cliff faces much higher. Doesn't matter if you fall 100 ft or 1000ft. You're dead either way. It's like being afraid to swim in water 50 ft deep rather than 20 feet. No easier to drown in one than the other.

There's something butt ugly about skyscrapers. They are the antithesis of being in touch with Nature.

Yeah that would be a cool fall. I wonder if it could be made to land on one of buildings over there. Whoa.

Sometimes butt-plug ugly. 30 St Mary Axe, London (http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/30_St_Mary_Axe.html):

Just looking at the picture spooks me. I'm not afraid of hights as long as I'm inside a finished building. ;)

You couldn't pay me enough! I wouldn't mind taking a trip up there when its completed though.

At this point is the Burj Dubai taller than the Taipei 101?

You'd think people would have learned their lesson about having one building that sticks up more than five or ten percent higher than the rest of a city's skyline. Dubai is a relatively secular and staunchly pro-Western Muslim Arab country. A prime target for terrorists.

The tricks are known now, so I doubt they will fly in to it....

Agreed. That's a shabby looking eyesore

Perhaps the architects had a design on the table....were working hard so ate a lot of Chinese take out. They were going to send the design off to the engineers but the take out boxes got wrapped up and sent off by mistake.

The taller they get the uglier they become.

It is designed after the structure of bamboo.

I predict that it will be the first skyscraper to fall down before it is completed.
