Iniaes is cool. :) I've seen this before, in my programming manual. They operate on CBR, or Cased-Based Reasoning. It is another name for "nearest-neighbor" classification. For every input, it finds the best matching "case" in the pattern set, and generates a reply based on the associated template. You can type in random words, and it will find something to say. And every time you type that word in, it says the same thing. :D

Random Trivia Fact:

Kenneth Colby programmed a computer as a mental patient, because there seemed to be a surplus of psychoanalysts at the time (1971), and not enough patients to go around. Specifically, the computerized patient was a paranoid schizophrenic, and had variable levels of Mistrust, Anger, and Fear. The conversations were pretty interesting.

Mmmm, there used to be a program called ALICE around, pure text communication. Once wrote my own version. It could keep up a conversation for quite a while. Not a very smart conversation, still ----- . I wonder if I still have the source code somewhere ---
