Women: what can and shouldn't a (stranger) man do to make you feel good about yoursel

So I am not very successful at interacting with women in general. I've been thinking and I deducted that one of the most important ways of being liked a lot by women is making them feel very good about themselves. I am talking about strangers, women of all shapes, sizes and ages. What works with 'beautiful' women (who may be tired of hearing compliments), and what works with women with less self-esteem? Strangers of around my age (21), older women, my mother, my cousins. How do I make them receptive, eager to have me around?
"not very successful" meaning indifferent.

I'm mostly looking for things that apply to women in general.

Listening is a bit hard because most strangers don't just come up to you and start a conversation.

 

That probably only applies to women that expect to be worshipped for their looks or fame. You're bruising their ego and they'll get an urge to prove themselves to you, especially if you do it in front of her friends. But this isn't the kind of thing that I'm looking for...

No, I'm just looking for better ways to express my appreciation for their beauty and femininity. Note that "beauty" has nothing to do with the media version of beauty.

Show an interest in them and in what they have to say about themselves.
Make believe that they are more interesting than you are.
Let your own remarkable qualities be revealed almost, as it were, by accident.

Beauty is not what women aspire to in our culture...a culture which no longer values any ideals.

Women now try to make themselves look like escapees from a lunatic asylum. Insanity has become a fashion accessory.

However, you might want to try dying your eyebrows, women still seem to appreciate dark bushy eyebrows...ala Marlon Brando.
