PS They have been deleting these various articles I made that contained track listings for CD's along with album art, a completely bizarre idea to me * they even claim they violated fair use? * Exactly how does fair use become violated when the whole article is about the CD's and their tracks? It's ridiculious to say I can't post the cover art with the track listings. Utter nonsense... Wikipedia is no longer useful to me.
Only part it sucks is that it is unable to recognize something if you misstype it. I hate it, google can figure out what I was trying to find, why Wiki can't do the same??
the thing that I love the best about it is that all the teachers at school say that it can not be used as a reliable source because anyone can change it, even though they have experts checking every article constantly, and Wikipedia is considered more accurate than Britannica Encyclopaedia.
That's a lunatic's expectation? That album art can be shown with the cd track listings on a page about the cds? you're the one that's crazy pal =P
When you upload an image, you have to provide a rationale of why it's fair use. If you're reasoning is good enough, it won't be deleted. They probably took it down because it lacked rationale, not because it wasn't fair use.
The rationale was simple, I post about the CD's therefore accompanying cover art would help people identify which CD I'm talking about (should differeing versions exist). That's rational and logical it's fair use in my book.
That doesn't address fair use in a legal sense. You have to address 4 issues: 1)purpose and character of the use, 2) nature of the work, 3) amount of use, 4) the effect on the work's value. Those are the legal considerations for determining fair use. You need to say something like: "This is fair use because it's a low resolution image of a larger work, it's being used in an informational article about the work itself, and it will have no ill effect on the value of the work (in fact it might even boost sales)." They are trying to protect themselves legally. Nobody would disagree that it makes sense to put an image on the article. People only disagree about the legal aspect.
