New Sciforums user creepNikecnshoes is spamming Sciforums this minute. Presumably creepNikecnshoes is a robot and costs little to operate but still the spambot must cost something to operate. There must be a return on investment for these spammers or they would not be spamming. But what kind of idiot buys from a spammer? Don't we all hate spammers? Even if a spammer offered and incredible deal I would not buy from them. I might look for the same deal from somebody else since the spammer has led me to believe that the deal might be available in cyberspace. If they are immoral enough to spam then they are probably immoral enough to sell your credit card info. Has anybody ever bought from a spammer? Does anybody know somebody who bought from a spammer?
What if it is a black campaign? Say, you are selling Adidas shoes and your biggest competitors are Nike, Jordan, etc. By spamming internet boards continuously with your competitors' brands, the market is reacting negatively towards them Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I made this screenshot. Sciforums apparently isn't the only victim. Either it is an ambitious Nike marketting or someone else who hates Nike as much. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
He is not just mentioning Nike. Maybe they are just trying to get their websites traffic up so that they get a higher price for their advertising. Even if you just visited their website to get try and find some way of screwing with them you would be increasing their traffic.
But how would that strategy works in the long-run? Eventually people (who tried to visit the site, if any) will stop visiting them anyway.
You would run out of new people eventually but that is true for any business selling anything. After you run out of new people you could change your name and do it again. They probably really do want to sell something or they are phishers but your idea that they are trying to create hatred against something might be valid and they could be looking for web traffic for their advertising revenues.
Hmmm... that sounds like some email spammers that offer million of dollars, I mean who would be stupid enough to respond to such fraud, but probably there are really few people who are naive enough to be tricked Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Because of cheap and/or good product? The definition of spam doesn't mean the product itself is bad....
yea, I hate spammers with a passion, they've inundated gaming sites and our lives beyond the point of harrasment and really need to be dealt with.
For emails maybe there should be a $.001 charge to the sending email account paid to the receiving ISP. I think that would stop email spam. Doesn't Sciforums do the thing where you have to read the disguised writing and type what you see before you can be a sciforums user and post? I guess a human was involved in getting the sciforums user account and the he unleashed his robot spamming program to do to write the spam posts.
The latest spam has Xbox for $165, kind of hard to believe since that is 40% less than the usual price. Unless the product is stolen, there is no way they could make money on it, since the Xbox is not really a moneymaker as hardware...
The actual cost of running spamware is virtually nil. Spamware is (crack) hack material; there are no servers needed, just infect thousands of privately owned computers to serve for you. About the only cost would be internet service, but that isn't even required. A person could borrow, tap into or otherwise highgrade free service long enough to load spamware.
