Why do we insist that free will makes us superior?

Isn't it obvious, that if we have free will and the animals don't, then they are the ones truly superior?

    Why would either be superior?

    Bet,

No they are not. Some of them are superior to other animals. For example, predators eat herbivores. The herbivores live in absolute fear of the predators, I would not call that free will. The greatest predators next to humans can be killed by a simple parasite just like we can. We can kill any predator on earth including ourselves in mass numbers.

Free will has it's price. Would you rather be locked up in a 200 ft square cell but be guaranteed that you would not be attacked by anything for as long as you lived, or risk the possible attack to live outside of the cell.

That is the difference. Freewill is everything.

It is also what those who crave power absolutely want to take away from you.

Yes that is true, but only to an extent, that I might call reasonable freedom.

I would argue that like the great quote (Man is born free but is forever in chains) that we are set with boundaries. But contrary to denouncing those boundaries, I would suuget that it is ironically those boundaries that make us value what we do. That the boundaries, call them commandments, rules, laws etc, that set the bar and give society the benchmark by which to operate. For example we technically have the free will to kill anyone, yet governments through election decree that that is a criminal act and that most don't value it; hence your 200 square feet fortress.

So technically those that want to take that type of power (freewill) off you, aren't always despots.
