Why spend the time to read or post to sciforums?

I had often wondered.

Motivations are of course mixed, but you are nevertheless invited to declare which best would describe your disposition.

To kill time in a fun way between experiments.

Also to think about something other than work (which occupies all waking hours right now) as a mental break.

Also the atmosphere at sciforums is pretty unrestricted and there are some interesting personalities here with a very divergent outlook, which makes for a great deal of entertainment and some really original points of view. :)

Ron, do you actually think you'd ever hear the extremeties of ideas and delusions in person that you read here?

Oh no, my sense of moral superiority is founded very much upon my wife's assurance that I am much the same here online as elsewhere, offline, while I know for a fact that others are definitely not the same here, not according at least to private confessions, or the lack of them.

Why else do they flee in fear and squeal like tortured pigs when threatened with their own reality?

It also shows in their own assumptions, that what they see of each other is but a supercial artifice, with some deeper psychological secret yet to be revealed. That is all projection, paranoia.

I couldn't say where she's coming' from,
But I just met a lady named Dinah-Moe Humm

She stroll on over, say look here, bum,
I got a forty dollar bill say you can't make me cum
(Y'jes can't do it)

She made a bet with her sister who's a little bit dumb
She could prove it any time all men was scum

I don't mind that she called me a bum,
But I knew right away she was really gonna cum
(So I got down to it)

I whipped off her bloomers'n stiffened my thumb
An' applied rotation on her sugar plum

I poked 'n stroked till my wrist got numb
But I still didn't hear no Dinah-Moe Humm,
Dinah-Moe Humm

Dinah-Moe Humm
Dinah-Moe Humm
Where's this Dinah-Moe
Comin' from
I done spent three hours
An' I ain't got a crumb
From the Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe
From the Dinah-Moe Humm

Got a spot that gets me hot, ow!
An' you ain't been to it
(No no no no!)
Got a spot that gets me hot, ow!
An' you ain't been to it
(No no no!)
Got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it
(No no no no no!)
Got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it
'Cause I can't get into it
Unless I get out of it
An' I gotta get out of it
Before I get into it
'Cause I never get into it
Unless I get out of it
An' I gotta be out of it
To get myself into it

(She looked over at me with a glazed eye
And some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area
And she said . . . )

Just get me wasted
An' you're half-way there
'Cause if my mind's tore up,
Then my body don't care

I rubbed my chinny-chin-chin
An' said my-my-my
What sort of thing
Might this lady get high upon?

I checked out her sister
Who was holdin' the bet
An' wondered what kind of trip
The young lady was on

The forty dollar bill didn't matter no more
When her sister got nekkid an' laid on the floor
She said Dinah-Moe might win the bet
But she could use a little ______ if I wasn't done yet

I told her . . .
Just because the sun
Want a place in the sky
No reason to assume
I wouldn't give her a try

So I pulled on her hair
Got her legs in the air
An' asked if she had any cooties on there

(Whaddya mean cooties! No cooties on me!)

She was buns-up kneelin'
BUNS UP!
I was wheelin' an dealin'
WHEELIN' AN' DEALIN' AN' OOOOH!
She surrender to the feelin'
SHE SWEETLY SURRENDERED
An' she started in to squealin'

Dinah-Moe watched from the edge of the bed
With her lips just a-twitchin' an' her face gone red
Some drool rollin' down
From the edge of her chin
While she spied the condition
Her sister was in
She quivered 'n quaked
An' clutched at herself
While her sister made a joke
About her mental health
'Till Dinah-Moe finally
Did give in
But I told her
All she really needed
Was some discipline . . .

Kiss my aura . . . Dora . . .
M-M-M . . . it's real angora
Would y'all like some more-a?
Right here on the flora?
An' how 'bout you, Fauna?
Y'wanna?

MMM . . . sound like you're chokin' on somethin'

Did you say you want some more?
Well, here's some more . . .

(Oh, baby . . . )

Oh, sure . . . look,
D'you think I could interest you
In a pair of zircon-encrusted tweezers?

MMM . . . tweezers!
Wait a minute, lemme sterilize 'em . . .
Gimme your lighter . . .

I couldn't say where she's coming' from

I hate to take away from all the above-mentioned porniscuous fun, but I think much of the banter in sciforums is based on assumptions that the posts have personal meanings and/or involve situations unlike those which actually apply - that accounts for about 50% of the really juicy posts.

I personally find it fascinating to view this little research center for the human zoo.

I like seeing and talking with people who think well compared to the average human - and the people that think poorly are fun too.

I truly wish I had much more time to hang out here - the last while, as I have been away, you all have been missed.

P.S. I'm, sure I'm not the first person to use the word "porniscuous", but if I am, I want royalties...

I concur.

In order to understand what goes on here one needs to bear in mind the need to be here at all,
to start off with, whatever the need was, hence this thread.

While writing a previous post this morning I realised what exactly my own fascination is:

....the constant struggle of people obviously overcome by the irrationality of their own emotions but nevertheless determined to convince themselves if nobody else that this is not in fact the case.

It is amazing how often I have had comments treated as a personal issue when there was nothing of the sort in mind,
when for the most part I'd had no idea of the offline personality anyway,
no reason to regard them as important to me, one way the other.

It came as quite a shock to me to discover that for some people their online interaction is pretty much the only source of emotional stimulation,
with no friends offline to speak of, and a disturbing tendency to speak of online affairs as if in every sense they were just as real,
and with no apparent intention to meet those concerned except online.

I am not going to be tempted now to mention anybody in particular but I have commented about this before,
and I think it does need to be adressed as a general psychological issue.

Why do you want to go on desperate e-dates if you have a wife at home..and a son.

Most be a stimulating environment.

I am not going to go any further with that.

If you think it order to do so, take that up with James R.

I suggest you give it rest lest you make too much of fool of yourself.

Can we talk about your emotional bond with your son then?

Anyway.

You admitted that you do come here for the emotional stimuli, despite blaming others for doing so.

There was an interesting article in the Dutch news site that loads like an overweight american. It said that the american government was really pleased with the Dutch. They were referring of course to how good of a bitch we have been for them in the afghan and Iraq war effort, and the abduction of foreign nationals and their transport to secret prisons.

That's right. The USA government thinks the Netherlands is their best bitch.

So if I were Leopold or the devil inside I would stop their unpatriotic behaviour and start praising their patriotic ally in the American endevour to rid the world of evil and bring freedom to those who do not want any.

Interesting were also the reactions to the article. They were mostly of embarrassment of the Dutch people for their own government for being USA's bitch. But they are not patriots like us. To hell with them!

It came as quite a shock to me to discover that for some people their online interaction is pretty much the only source of emotional stimulation,
with no friends offline to speak of, and a disturbing tendency to speak of online affairs as if in every sense they were just as real,
and with no apparent intention to meet those concerned except online.

If one examines semioticist narrative, one is faced with a choice: either reject rationalism or conclude that the task of the artist is social comment. In a sense, if semioticist narrative holds, the works of Gibson are modernistic. This could imply that we have to choose between the neodialectic paradigm of context and conceptual Marxism.
