The immediate reaction here in the U.S. will of course be that no one will believe anything Saddam has to say. It would be enlightening, though, if the few remnants of our truly independent journalistic tradition could follow up on his information. I'm sure that the relationship between the U.S. and Iraq in the 1980s stank to the heavens, and a little truth on that score would be welcome.
