What is your current reason for living?
Define your reason for waking up in the morning

For me it is my Lover followed by my work
I am creative in words and I like sunshine.
The people in my life and their valued input

I am rather curious to see what, if anything, comes after death. But I'm not in any hurry to find out. Why? Because if there's nothing, then it would be a really dumb thing to give up all the groovy stuff you can do living.

So, I like the world, I like all the groovy stuff I can see and do. I really like women, sex, good food, learning stuff, the occasional drink, movies, books, massages, more massages, and so on.

What is your current reason for living?
1.) I exist.
2.) Everyone else is unnecessary for 1.)

Tyler

I have two reasons for not leaving existence.

For one, it would seriously hurt other people if I was to commit suicide.

For two, I like when good things happen!

Sometimes I get so bored with life that number one becomes the only reason.

What is my reason for living?????

so I suppose we should all want to die unless we have a reason not to. Life is sacred in my opinion. Its pure foolishness to want to die. The purpose of human life in particular is to control our surroundings. Not only is this evolutionary, its also religious in a way. And the fun part is contributing what you can.

On mr. G's point, dont you think you'd get kinda lonely, and not very far in human purpose? I think you as everyone, has someone to rely on whether you know it or not.

The thread was meant to give an opportunity to tell us what you celebrate about being alive not reasons why you don't jump off something high.

bbcboy,

The thread was meant to give an opportunity to tell us what you celebrate about being alive not reasons why you don't jump off something high.I don’t see any difference. Just being alive is well worth celebrating.

I almost don’t care what I actually do with my life providing I don’t lose it. I’m 50 this year and I have done and tried many things. As I look around for more things to do I feel overwhelmed with new things to try. That makes me very aware that time is short and I’m never going to be able to do everything I’d like unless I can find ways to extend the life I have.

The greatest thing about living is being alive so that you can live.

Asguard,

how do we KNOW the altrenitive sucks. Feel free to ask anyone who has tried it. So far the return rate is zero.

To me death has ALWAYS been atractive because its the ultimate mysteryIf you are really that curious then why not try it?

But I’d recommend that before you investigate that alleged mystery then why not take a quick look at the colossal number of real mysteries that are present in the real universe. That should take you a few millions of years.

Of course if you can’t figure out how to live that long then you’ll get a chance to see if death is a mystery soon enough. I’d invite you to come back and tell me your findings but based on the current statistics there appears to be a zero probability that I’d ever here from you again.

My dear friend, :) after a night sleep, I simply wake up! :) My eyes open and I don't want to lay in bed all day...

It is Spring, a good time of the year to be awake and alive, as is any Season, for they all have their beauty and value in daily life. Guess the most important reasons for being alive are already given here, in the thread.

I'll give you a very simple one to add up to them. It is a real joy to find my cat every morning, jumping around like crazy and clawing and biting in my feet. :) (he is still young and very, very alive)

Death is not an option, other then when it happens, it happens...

The sun is shining hot and bright today and as I drove to work I found myself crawling along at 20mph. It was just too nice to whizz by.

A good day :D:D

I´m possibly planning to become one of those "whale-people" that are so humongous that they have to be washed off with a hose and rolled around on triple stretchers, when entering the outdoors. If I´m lucky my eyelids would even grow so fat that it would be impossible to open my eyes. That would be perfect....
But I´m rather skinny now, so it´s hard work getting there, that´s my reason. :D

I live life according to what REALLY matters, love and your relationships with other people. While others may argue that things such as school, work, and making money are the first priority, what would end up really mattering to you if one day you found out you had cancer, or a few months to live, or all of a sudden all your material things were gone, or you lost someone you truely love. Then your job, schoolwork or income would mean nothing, what would be left to care about except love and your friends? In the grand scheme of things that is all that truely matters, no matter how much pressure society puts on you to think othwise.

Welcome to sciforums, HoldenK.

In the grand scheme of things, what really matters is whatever you think really matters.

You cannot say that love is all that matter when to someone else, money and possessions may be all that matters.

Xev
04-11-02, 05:30 PM
Right Tyler! Values are relative.

I would prefer a nice BMW 325ci over 'love' (depending on who with and how long - right), whereas Nelson would not.

Simply what I value versus what Nelson values.

Adam
04-11-02, 05:43 PM
Xev, you bitter disillusioned woman. :p A car is a hunk of plastic and metal. There are millions of the suckers. Just plastic and metal mass-assembled products. Love feels heaps better, and is a far more individual experience. It also involves shagging, which I find superior to driving.

Xev
04-11-02, 05:51 PM
Not bitter and disillusioned, just honest.

Over six billion humans on the planet, really, pretty blue BMW 325ci's are much more rare.

For the record, there are one or two people I would prefer to love (emotionally, prevert! :p) over a pretty little Beemer....but generally I would go with the 325.

Adam
04-11-02, 06:09 PM
There may be over 6 billion people, but very few of them even knowany one of us. Fewer still love any one of us. The chances of finding one person in over six billion who can stick with you for your whole life is pretty small I think, but it seems to happen all the time anyway.

And who are you callin' a pervert, lizard-lady?!

HoldenK
04-11-02, 06:48 PM
you mean to tell me that if all of a sudden you were living your last months, your blue BMW would mean more to you than all the friendships you have created? You would rather have a BMW than relationships of all kinds?

Just my opinon, but the connections you have with other people mean a lot more to me than things I could by. I dont believe you can buy happiness or love, no emotion can be bought, you can only buy tangible things. Its a shame...because the things that are not tangible are worth the most in life. (my opinion once again)

Life may be money, but whats money without life?

Xev
04-11-02, 06:49 PM
I am calling you a prevert, you prevert! :p

Yeah, maybe few of those people know us, but few cars are in my garage!

None, in fact.

Okay okay okay. I admit that if somone very nice were to get down on his knees - erm, bad choice of words - if somone 'special' loved me, I would prefer that over a 325.

However, Beemers are still a girl's best friend.

Well actually, big, cute German shepards are.....awww

Holden: Oh no. I value friendship over a 325. Just not love.

Tyler
04-11-02, 07:07 PM
Hey Xev; let me get this straight.....You like hockey.....You value a good car....You're into philosophy......Not afraid to be honest both social wise and sexual wise..........
