For those who dont know, Joost TV is now available for anyone who wants it, and has the system requirements.

I will definitely be interested when I get a new system, but I'm wondering how it can possibly work.

How can a broadband connection download enough data per hour to watch FULL screen DVD quality video on demand?

    Whats their secret?

Well they don't stream true DVD quality video, it's probably DivX. They say about 300 mb per hour of viewing, a DivX rip of a DVD is about 750 mb which usually equates to 1.5-2 hours. The difference in quality isn't that much, and if you're piping it to a TV it's not noticeable at all.

Seems like a good start to the idea, but I'll give it a few more years before I join up (most of the channels I'd be interested in aren't available in Canada).

No, but looking at the "What's On?" link there's several channels that are only available in certain countries. Comedy Central is only in the US, the Alliance Sci-Fi is not available in US or Canada and so on. It's not surprising, there's a lot of legalities and liscensing agreements that have to be worked out for this kind of thing, but it's got potential.

They filter the channel selections by IP/isp I guess.

It's a cool idea, but I wasn't that impressed with it. The selection of videos wasn't great.

I torrent everything, so it will take some time before streaming tv/videos even comes close to the level of flexibility and choice I already have.
