That statement about borrowed culture was merely supposed to draw the ire of Prozak, It didn't. Plainly, and as originall stated it is evident that all present and past culture has been the evolution of several original culture, if that makes any sense. Meaning Jazz can be traced back to African music or even European music, etc etc. The whole notion of assimilation destroying a particular culture is illogical as culture itself is in constant evolution and thus in a constant state of modification. Unless a certain culture exists that has not met any outside influences, that culture cannot be truly destroyed unless the whole population supporting that culture is destroyed. This because it will eventually evolve when exposed to other cultures or it will evolve on its own.

I've noticed that I haven't been mentioned on this particular "who's the best" thread that often, maybe just once (by Thor). I think it just goes to show that I'm not really associated with many of the people involved in this thread. But I do think that it matters who's side you're on, when online or in the realish world, especially in a community as large as this one. I wouldn't go so far as to say that there are cliques here on sciforums, but there are friendships. You can see them quite readily just by looking at who likes who.

As for inspiration...well, I don't come here for inspiration. I doubt I'd find it. I do come here to learn, and to befriend others, but not to find my muse. Rarely do any of the words written online, I've found, elicit an inspiration in me, as I tend to find "that greater will" in literature, in music, and in the outdoors. So I can't really get into bed with anyone here.

What if the woman is stupid? I think an anthropological perspective would show that women look to a strong mate. Strength is perceived by women in many different ways. Intelligence isn't always one of them. Generally it depends on the emotional trauma (or at least powerful emotional experience) of the woman in question. For instance if a woman had a intelligent mate who beat her ass every day for 10 years, she'll probably look at compassion as strength and seek the mate who shows evidence of compassion, regardless of intellect... see what I mean?

No I do not see what you mean. If a woman who was beaten for 10 years then obviously she is not looking for compassion. If she had understanding or valued compassion she would leave (even in the worst scenerios any woman can leave an abuser)

You have a point about my example which was someone poorly constructed in haste. What I was driving at (which you seemed to ignore) was that selection criteria for a mate is always based on your experience (if you are the one who gets to choose I guess, some places still use arranged marriages). That being the case, intelligence isn't necessarily a factor in what makes a mate appealing. This isn't hypothetical, I know this from indirect personal experience. I've seen it firsthand more than once. I would concede that generally intelligence is probably a factor, but not always

I agree but that is why I say that women look for a package. Sometimes the criteria is so unconscious that we are not even aware of it, its as if there is a subtle code, which kicks in and allows for chemistry before we really know with whom we are dealing with. I am speaking of conscious choice. I agree that NOT desiring intelligence in a mate is not a failure if that is what one is looking for, but I still think that this is one of many things women desire. But although the grounds-keeper was not educated he was still intelligent and he had the one main factor which can override eveything on a woman's list...PASSION!

how do you choose to filter the people you would choose to have a relationship with?
my point is that most people create a certain criteria as you have mentioned
however these mostly include the people who can afford to pay the door entry to the exclusive club that is called the money dating game
i am refering to the idea of 2 single people being in 2 seperate places in the same city
if the guy does not have a nice car and a good job
then the women would not be interested in dating him to then be in the position to decide if she wanted to have a relationship with him

and so what has happened is that money has been placed inbetween the equation
women aspire to a certain level of finance or status of some kind
which is actualy quite irrelavant of intellegence
just look at all the politicians as one big group
how many would call them all sorts of names and say they are not intellegent and then think that because they have a good income and social status they would be acceptable as a potential.
women are being taught to sit around in exlusive high price institutions to show themselfs so they can wait to get an offer from one of the passing millionares.
mothers and fathers are the primary teachers of thier own children = that was my point

yes it is great that women are being taught to generate thier own incomes even if they must conform to the sexual equation of being the sex symbol
men for years have taken on a female partner devoid of finacial criteria and have been expected to see some form of value in the emotional equation of what women can offer

now that women are generating thier own income they are starting to place the ecconomical pre-curser as a filter to the type of men they will associate with
and so the pendulum swings into the other extreem and the gap widens
women will genraly not date a guy with no job
and genraly a man will date a women with or without a job
and is considered less to expect the women to be erning

i have met all sorts of people and some of whom do not even fit into any form of what we have mentioned.
i have met men and women from extreemly rich and extreemly poor finacial situations who are stereotyped in these issues at both ends
i am making a genralisation of what the social trend is as a culture of western conformaties
every time i see a couple who do not have material desires of the other my heart is lightened
but unfortunately it is not very common.
material desires equate to women expecting to change the male into a finacial bigwig with ruthless busines practice with no desire for other women
while the women wishes to be desired by other men
men on the other side wish to have a domestic sex slave who can raise the children in his absence as he plays with his mates.
and a few of the other things you have already mentioned in another thread.

so my point is that the concept of getting into bed with someone
is most often left to after the immediate phisical or selfish desire is met in some form and then floundering in the dark they desperately try to seek new frontiers based on miss conceptions and escapism

traditionally, a woman's only ambition is/was to get married. so to her, being successful means amrrying a successful man. your theories used to be true but are outdated. the average income for a biologist is 90K....i'm pretty sure i'll be the breadwinner in my family because i intend to make lots of dough. it follows that all the guys i've dated are dirtpoor so i always end up paying. you say it's rare but it's not so rare anymore and it's getting even less rare. just wait a few years and see where things are.

I agree it is much more common for a man not to care as much about the income of a woman. But I know quite a few male artists who would starve it if it were not for the women who supported them nursing or bartending. Strangely enough I know more male artists in that situation than I do female, who will work to support themselves even if it means working doubly hard to hone their craft.
