View Full Version : Who are the Scum of the Earth?
PsychoticEpisode 06-08-06, 01:48 PM Certainly not a prestigious title to hold but each of us has an opinion on who holds the bottom rung on the ladder to the human abyss.
I used to think paedophiles would never relinquish the belt but my feeling today is that terrorists have earned that dubious honor, particularly those with a religious cause. Diddling little kids is bad enough but murdering innocent people, including kids, is worse in my estimation.
Not sure if there can be anything worse than those two but I'd welcome other viewpoints. Other candidates may or may not include religious leaders, atheists, theists, politicians, the incestuous, women beaters(haters), rapists, homosexuals, whatever.
Shoulda done a poll.

The scum of the earth...Well, since good and bad are a matter of opinion, nature must be the one to dictate the scum of the earth. Cannibals and homosexuals violate the purpose that nature has given them; to bring forth the next generation. So, by nature, they are the scum of the earth. From a perspective of my own ethics, the overweight and ignorant who make no attemp to improve themselves are the scum of the earth.

An extraordinary statement. Overweight is a response to genes and environment ( physical, biological, genetic, mental, behavioral and societal). Its my area of expertise as a clinical and molecular nutritionist. Overweight is also prized in societies where food availability is scarce.
Ignorance is a point of view and you seem pretty ignorant to me, from the above statements.

Ignorance is the lack of being well-knowledged or well-cultured. I understand that the overweight are revered in some places, however, there has been a universal food scarcity in the world. More energy is needed to sustain more mass. Because of this, it would be more beneficial for humans, as a species to make the utmost attempt to remain or to become healthy. Ignorance is the reason why "we can't all just get along."
Yes I am saying the homosexuals and cannibals are unnatural, that is fact, but as you see, ignorance and obesity are in my mind, more "scummish" than cannibals, homosexuals, and any other group, because they actual interupt society. A normal weight person is one who is in energy balance
A normal weight person may not necessarily be healthy - he/she may get cancer, blood pressure stroke, have drug realted problems etc
Energy balance means Intake = Expenditure
Intake = eating regulated by levels of nutrients and controlled by hormones.
There are ~ 20 hormones which tell your body "stop eating" and only one which says "eat"
Expenditure = Using the energy
If you are 21 years old 150 pounds and about 6 feet tall, you would burn approx 1600 kcals per day when you did absolutely nothing, i.e. just to keep your body functioning . If you eat the recommended calories of ~ 2000 kcals per day can you see how much of it is needed just to stay alive?
Now think of yourself as a car... :)
If all I did was put enough gas into you, would you be the perfect automobile?
In the beginning maybe, when you were brand new; but I would need to check on your parts regularly make sure you were getting enough oil and water and that you didn't have a few loose screws!!
So just thinking about how much you eat is not enough, you have to eat the right mix, at the right time ( nutrients interact and when not in balance are either inefficiently utilized or thrown out), and in the right proportion. There are nutrients required for energy and there are nutrients required to keep this very complex machine we call our body functioning.
Now anything that goes wrong in any ONE of these processes can throw the whole thing completely out of whack.
And unlike a car, unfortunately even when other things are malfunctioning, our capacity to store this energy is almost unlimited. And none of our systems are genetically geared to cope with this
Right now the NIH is trying desperately to understand these problems because 60% of Americans are overweight and if this goes on in another 25 years the figures may be more than 80 %. Research is intensively focused on the causes of obesity. I am doing my bit :) .

What makes these people good, if not their own judgement of what good is? If they merely fulfill their own beliefs, then they are no more "good" than I. What if I believe that the good are those with the greater will and destination for survival and reproduction, as nature would dictate? How then are these who become victims good. There is no universal good, because there is no such all-being. Therefore what is good to you may not exist as good to me, and vice versa. I believe that governments should not "rule" people and that people should not "rule" land, surely your beliefs differ?
