A guy named Shuler used to hold parties on his houseboat when I was a kid; Laura Shuler was a producer for Lady Hawke (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Shuler%20Donner,%20Lauren) (I'm surprised by her current credentials) though I don't know if she was this guy's daughter or wife or what; I didn't know them well. I recently worked with Larry Parypa, formerly of the legendary garage band The Sonics (http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/foottap/536/sonics/interview2.htm). I went to high school with Kat (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Ogden,+Kat), from MTV's "Real World: London". I'm on reasonable terms, whenever we run across one another, with Robin Hobb (http://www.locusmag.com/1998/Issues/01/Hobb.html) (aka Megan Lindholm (http://www.meganlindholm.com/)). A man named Ed Wyatt was my high school Lit teacher (sophomore year); he appeared on a local television show called Almost Live!, which had a run on Comedy Central, but nobody got it. Ed also co-authored a few books that are largely out of print, and worked in southern California as a TV News sports broadcaster. For our Aussie friends, though, I found this curious web page, apparently posted by his father: Football Down Under (http://www.coachwyatt.com/ausfootball.html).

Aside from that, I had the opportunity to study with Jack Cady (http://www.nightshadebooks.com/spotlightcady.html), have promised Steven Brust (http://dreamcafe.com/main.cgi) a beer when I see him next, played security guard for Misty Rain (content warning!) (http://www.toyboxxx.com/pornstars/1573.htm) during her stop in Salem, Oregon, on a club tour, and Floater--my favorite band--still says hello when they see us walk into a show. (I'm so guilt-ridden at having missed two Seattle shows, but hey, it's for Emma, so I think they understand.)

What's really weird, though, is that I don't know anyone tremendously famous. A few American football coaches, including a couple of scandalous ones. I think it bugs my dad that two of his former coaching buddies have Super Bowl rings (Dave Campo--Dallas Cowboys; Charlie Banker--Washington Redskins), and another is the new head coach at Alabama; any of our European posters who watch(ed?) NFL Europe might recall Jim Criner (http://www.nfleurope.com/worldbowl/news/week10/21062000_city.html), of the Frankfurt Galaxy. Turns out he's the most famous guy I know, probably, winning a national championship (1AA) with Boise State University, getting fried in a recruiting scandal at Iowa State University (I think), coaching the Frankfurt Galaxy, and, as the web now tells me, serving as GM for the XFL's Las Vegas franchise (I can't recall their actual team name--I never watched XFL).

So ends my famous list for now.

Robin Hobb, author of the most depressing medieval fantasy type series in years...

Tiassa
01-21-03, 12:51 AM
''This series also had a number of years to incubate before I started writing it. It came from a question written on a scrap of paper that I kept in my top desk drawer: 'What if magic were addictive? And what if the addiction was destructive or degenerative?' From there, almost everything developed.- Locus magazine interview, 1998 (http://www.locusmag.com/1998/Issues/01/Hobb.html)

In the meantime, check out her other ego, Megan Lindholm (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/authors/Megan_Lindholm.htm). I highly recommend Alien Earth and Cloven Hooves.

Oh, wait. Yeah, okay, it's all depressing. But that's kind of the point. Life can't always be sunshine and friggin' rainbows. ;)

Grew up a couple of houses down from Carl Perkins, who wrote <i>Blue Seude Shoes</i> that made Elvis a star. Sat in a Beale St. bar and sipped scotch with Harvey Keitel. Actually, met a lot of movie stars and musicians while bartending on Beale St. Also met the pilot, can't remember his name now, who flew the Enola Gay. The pilot of the Memphis Belle got married in Memphis. They had the wedding under the wing of the Belle and later had the reception on the patio of our club, so a lot of those old WWII bomber pilots were there.

Erm...if that was a question aimed at me, there isn't one, I found out the answer to the hardest question last night.

But I found this out

Lord Arthur Lee lived in Fareham (In between here and Southampton) introduced Chequers to England :bugeye:

Roger Daltrey from the Who also lives in Fareham

Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert from 'Only Fools and Horses') lived in the New Forest

Jeremy Irons was born and grew up on the Isle of Wight

Peter Sellers was born in Southsea, that's like 8 miles away

That's all I've found so far, it's semi-impressive, but Jeremy Irons is ubercool!!!

Let's see- when I was a kid I lived in the same small town in Indiana that Red Skelton (comedian) came from. William Henry Harrison (US President) came from somewhere around there also. As does John Mellancamp (musician). I'm now living in Iowa- in the same city Elijah Wood (actor) came from. Your guess is as good as mine as to who is/was actually more famous. There are more from the same general region- but it would be a pain to type them all in. And some I'm leaving out- just because I should.

The Packer's live around the corner sometimes and the Cruises's sometimes visited their house(now they are divorced it's no more).

truth is famous people live all over the place when they are famous, wouldn't you?

soon as they are out of the limelight, that's when they settle down fully. i don't live near anyone like that, not that i know of.
