have these ever been observed or are they purely a mathematical solution to the posibility of worm holes?

View Full Version : White holes? god-of-course 08-16-03, 06:06 AM have these ever been observed or are they purely a mathematical solution to the posibility of worm holes? Crisp 08-16-03, 06:41 AM Well, we haven't even observed black holes yet, so let's just wait a bit with talking about white holes :) lethe 08-16-03, 08:03 AM white holes have no been observed. i consider them to be about as unphysical as those EM solutions where an accelerated charged absorbs radiation from infinity, instead of emitting. that is, because the night sky is black, this solutions are unphysical. James R 08-16-03, 09:13 AM Crisp: We've seen lots of things which cannot be anything but black holes (given current understanding of physics). I'd say there's pretty good evidence that black holes are real. On the other hand, nothing resembling a white hole has ever been seen. Crisp 08-16-03, 10:38 AM James, I totally agree, and I think the concept of a black hole will indeed one day be directly observed. And yes, I agree that is something looks like a black hole, smells like a black hole and sucks like a black hole, then with a very high probability, it will be a black hole :). But until that has happened, I think we should point out that no direction observations have been made so far, even though indirect evidence exists. People seem to take the idea of a black hole a bit too easily for granted (or at least, I have that impression). God forbid that one day it'll all turn out wrong and that we'll have to explain ourselves. Bye! Crisp |
