As you all know, George Bush has just nominated Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. This is White Affirmative Action. But you'll never see White People "OUTRAGED" about someone less qualified being appointed to a position, aslong as they're White.

Here's what Republican Pat Buchannon has to say Harriet Miers.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Q u o t e:
But her qualifications for the Supreme Court are non-existent. She is not a brilliant jurist, indeed, has never been a judge. She is not a scholar of the law. Researchers are hard-pressed to dig up an opinion

You can't argue with the Facts. Alberto Gonzales is more Qualified, being that he served on the Texas Supreme Court. So how come Whites aren't hooting and hollaring about someone more qaulified loosing their jobs to someone who's less qaulified?

This show's the hypocrisy of your people. Cronyism=White Affirmative Action. It's happens everday, but let a Black get a Job that he wasn't over qualifed for. The Whites will come out breathing fire, and preaching how Affirmative Action is Racism. I see no Whites protested former FEMA director Michael Brown. Who was a head of the Arabian Horse association before being promoted to the head of FEMA. This is white Affirmative Action. Under Qualifed Whites get Jobs everyday they didn't earn. Only because Whites are doing the Hiring. So before you look in the Minorities backyards screaming INJUSTICE. Clean up your on F+cking yards first.

They are. Many people are complaining about this proposed appointment, even on this forum.

    Why play the race card?

I think she's there simply because she's a woman. I -am- quite mad. I am also quite mad that Bush hasn't decided to go crazy right-wing. He isn't spending his political capital.

What's the appointment process? Does Bush's nomination have to be confirmed by Congress? Which house(s)? Do the Republicans have control of one or both houses?

    James R.:

The appointment process entails the president nominating an individual for a place on the supreme court, with the senate confirming or not-confirming that person after questioning the nominee with a vote requiring a simple majority of 51 (at the present time) people.

The Republican Party currently controls both houses of the United States Congress, the presidency, and the majority of state governorships.

Because people know that Gonzales has dirty laundry he wouldn't like hanging out, such as the memos approving torture. He has too much of a record, while Harriet's opinions are largely unknown. If anything, this choice is affirmative action for women.

Well, if Miers is such a terrible deal for the court, then all of the senators will know it, too, right? I mean, y'all can't be the only smart people in the world ....surely some of the senators are smart, too.

If she gets approved, don't curse out President Bush, curse out the senate! President Bush could nominate Baron Max, but it's the senate that approves the choice. Please, folks, remember how our government works. President Bush has done almost nothing without the full support of the congress ....yet most of y'all put the blame directly on President Bush. Why?

I have only seen glimpses of this news story on TV but doesn't Miers have a law degree? It has nothing to do with race, it's a matter of who is friends with who and loyalty. Bush said that Miers was loyal to him for many years, so this was based upon trust. I am not even close to being a Republican but that's the way I see it.

Bush prolly appointed her so that the Supreme Court will collapse in the future as they hope the United Nations will.

But hey, White Affirmative Action, I'm laughing my ass off about this. While I definitly don't think she's qualified for the job, hey, keep her in just to show how stupid affirmative action is in the first place. Maybe that'll also crumble with her in it.

Hey, you're putting too much faith into the Senate, heh.

Well the Senate can't really do anything now since they lost their bitching match against Roberts, so if they complain again, it'll just be considered Bush-bashing because we don't trust anyone he appoints as judges. Imagine the outcries and heat the Senate will get if they delay this chick and try and get her out as well. It's a lovely Catch 22 that works in Bush 'n Co's favor. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. Frankly, this choice of a SC judge just shows how stupid Bush is and pisses me off how idiots could have re-elected him. It must have been that tough and thought-provoking poll of "Who'd You Rather Have a Beer With".

How in the hell is he wanting her in of all people. Gotta love how everything is about loyalty with him and not ability. Gee, I wonder why he needs such loyal people in these times. Yep, corrupt cronyism, err sorry, white affirmative action.

Lots of us white people are pissed off. Even liberal white women. There really are many people alive in America today who believe that the color of a man's skin is no more important than the color of his eyes, as Bob Marley so perfectly put it. I'm truly sorry that it's not everybody yet, but I've seen so much progress in the last 62 years that I'm willing to hold out hope for the future.

Try interacial dating. Everyone says "Oh color doesn't matter" But as soon as their daughter brings a Black Guy home the real truth comes out. And it's not nice.

THIS IS A WHITE PERSON GETTING A JOB SHE WASN'T QAULIFIED FOR

And no black person, or person of any other color, has never got a job they weren't qualified?

Well, as I see it, that "progess" is ONLY due to SOME people FORCING other people not to express their dislike. Are you holding out hope for more such discriminatory laws? ....laws which force others to hide their true feelings? ...and you call that "progress"? ...and you hope for more?

George Fucking Bush is the biggest disgrace. That's fucking affirmative action in progress, having a dunce like him sit at the very top of the political chain. Fucking hillbilly rednecks and Southern White Trash are responsible for that.
