View Full Version : Which are your favourite Web TV channels ?
Anomalous 01-24-06, 05:15 AM I have decided to get rid of my cableTV and get a faster broadband connection instead. I was shocked when I saw TV on WinAmp.
Do U think my decesion is right ? Is this end of Cable; And TV news monopoly ?
Do U watch WebTV ? Can U give any links.
What minimum broadband speed if enough for the purpose ?
And what about .tv domain sites ?
Anomalous 01-24-06, 05:28 AM Is there any ways I can watch WinAmp TV channels on Linux or MediaPlayer, because I doubt its prebuffering on my current slow connections.
Anomalous 01-25-06, 03:38 AM How come no one is helping me ?
Oh, so U dont believe me ?

glaucon 01-25-06, 07:30 AM What is WebTV? I've never heard of it.
Personally, I watch all my TV shows on my computer.

I've found that most of the channels found on WinAmp are usually full. Alot of them play my favourite shows so if I could actually get a connection I would watch it more. But for now, I have to be jealous for the bastards who get into the channel servers before me.
I forsee that in a few years time, normal television will still be mainstream but it will also be possible to simply download your favourite shows for you to watch anytime.
Say if you subscribe to a package you can download say the latest episode of ER (do they still make ER???) but you can only watch it once. But you can watch it whenever you want to instead of the predetermined time set by the broadcasters. Obviously you could only download it once it has been released so each episode will probably be released weekly. So instead of tuning into say SkyOne, you download from the SkyOne dedicated highspeed server.
And now I'm rambling.

Eeeek.. how annoying. Yep, it worked. That's basically just streaming video. No thanks, I like to have complete control over what I'm watching.

Winamp is using outdated technology, in case of simulcast or multicast anynumber of users can be connected just like TV. But I am unable to find good sources of that.
Anomalous 01-25-06, 09:10 AM Ok finally I found them by myself

these files work in Realplayer, I dono about others. They are on demand, no downloading waits, just like TV. and no limit on no of users at same time.
daktaklakpak 01-25-06, 05:36 PM There are planty of on-demand stuffs in cable, but I rarely watch. I love the HDTV in digital cable. After watching movies in HDTV, I no longer have the desire to buy DVD's nor to download XVID movies. No plan to for web tv anytime soon. I would rather spend the bandwidth on something else more rewarding, like downloads...

I'd just weight it on which you use more, your TV or your computer.
You can find loads of stuff for free online, so that's perfect if you're limited on money. There also won't be as wide of a selection of current TV shows or be in as good quality as a TV, but if that's not a problem, then I say go for broadband.
On file-sharing sites, you can download all sorts of old, popular TV shows and movies too. Just type in the show such as Family Guy and download the episodes that way.
I'm not too familiar with internet TV channels so I can't comment on that aspect, only alternate ways of getting what you may want.

Personally, I would. Surfing on broadband can get me something that can be used later in my computer. TV is just showing craps most the time.

U r right , we can just save the movies and watch them at our time.
Anomalous 01-31-06, 03:53 AM Winamp is the best, but I wonder if there are any multicast that dont limit number of users. Bittorrent does something like that, doesnt it ?
