Mails need te be transferred to a new pc. They have been stored in local folders for years. But where are these folders? How can I transfer these mails?

try some of the export functions, or just drag and drop them directly to a foldere of your choosing(assuming outlook/Express), then copy and drag them to your new mail system

If you have Outlook Express 5.5 and 98 SE, I believe the default folder is

    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\Microsoft\Outlook Express

I removed one of the directory names as that is personal to my computer, you'll have a serial number type folder after the Identities folder.

You can also use export as the other guy mentioned, or simply drag and drop the mails (though if you have duplicate subject names you'll have to put those in a separate folder, as your system will want to overwrite them).

If you go to the directory I mentioned above, you'll want to copy all of the files except for the "cleanup.log" file, as you don't need that

One thing you'll want to make sure of is...... Don't get a newer version of Outlook Express as you may not be able to access your previous mails! Some newer versions are not backwards compatible with older versions. If you are going to get a newer or older version, only use the drag and drop method to transfer your mails.

OK, now I found the mails, but now I need to get these .dxs (?) files on a windows xp pro system. In which directory should they be put in the new OS? Win XP Pro uses the same Outlook Express program and version.

    Thanks!

I don't know about Windows XP

But if Win XP does have the same folder directory, I would just put the files in there (and overwrite the existing ones of course).

Just drag and drop the same way you used to remove the files.

Ah, I found your solution I think

Open Outlook Express and go to the Tools menu. Then go to Options

Click on the Maintenance tab. See near the lower right where it says "Store Folder"? Just click on that and it should reveal where the mails are currently being stored.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't, just post back, I'll see what else I can do
