Hi all,
I desperately need help!
Hotmail's MacAfee assured me that an attachment was okay, so I opened it, and downloeded the yaha-K (I believe that's the name) virus.
After cleaning my computer I sill have this terrible problem: all programs are still on my computer, but my OS (WIN2k pro) doesn't know where they are. For example: I cannot open my browser, but I can open an HTML document (in my default browser).

Can anybody tell me what I can do, or is it a matter of format?

thanks,
Merlijn

P.S. This is also the reason why I have ben silent for some two weeks now.. :(

Sounds to me like your complete registery got cleaned.

(Note for the future, BACKUP YOUR REGISTERY REGULARLY!)

This means where your programs get installed and put keys in a registery to point out particular details, they no longer are linked.

This means things won't open, registered programs will think your on a times trial still etc.

If your lucky, your system might have a backup registery that you can "Roll back" to before the problem occured.

Although I did find something that might fix it, you have to go to your "CONTROL PANEL" -> Add/Remove programs ->
Set program access and defaults

There is an option for defining your default web browser.

Other things you might find of use/interest:

Has some information on registery tweaks

Has a program that will backup registeries etc and even restore in an emergency.
