The title may cause some confusion as obviously there will or should always be people involved in the workforce even if it is only on political levels.

    What my question really is..

How will we deal with the massive unemployment caused by robotic labour?

Everyday more jobs are lost to mechanical processes. I am not speaking of humanoid robots, but any mechanism to make production faster with less human employees.

Agriculture examples might be the advancement of an ox and plow replaced by a
huge Massey Ferguson combines. Scientifically designed crop rotations and genetically engineered vegetables can also add efficiency to production.

What used to take hundreds of men can now be done by one man in 100 times the territory.

note: I am not using this thread to discuss engineered produce. I'm interested in how governments are preparing for mass unemployment/welfare.

The government will not be able to ignore the "poor/jobless" once the jobless are the majority voters.

What kind of jobs will be safe?

Busdriver? Nope automated driving is on its way?
Policeman? sure, but face recognition software, and too many police already may make it so you cannot walk across town without getting a false charge against you.
Fireman? Really! My brother-in-law is a fireman and its been several years since he has seen a fire. Homes are mostly fireproof nowadays.

So what will the unemployed do? Will they take up art? Master music? Play video games all day?

I think it will soon be a societal norm to be unemployed. How are we preparing?
