According to authorities, there are only 28 original movie stories. Kidding aside, as 1000s of new movies, books and songs are being made, the original ideas are disappearing. Maybe that is one reason in the recent slump in musicsales. So after we made the remake of the remake of a movie, what else is there left???
Crap. That being said I'd think that new scripts can be written with new ideas in them. I just don't think that movie producers like taking chances with anything new because they are unsure of the results.
I thought the new King Kong remake was quite good. There are some very good remakes. As long as people write books, there will be movies.
And I thought it was crap. I've always enjoyed watching the original for all of its neat effects and plot.
So let's say the King Kong remake was good. Now is there a point remaking it in another 20 years? And in the maintime what are we going to watch/read? Sure there are new and original ideas, but as the movies/books' numbers grow there are going to be less and less original ones. So after a point it will be very hard to write a completely original story (the 29th one)
A great writer can always come up with plot lines and twists to new stories they invent. There's something new everyday everywhere so I think that it is up to the movie producers to take more risks with the newer , more inventive writers instead of going with what use to work.
