That is of course not equal money, because women are 60% overpaid, but people are generally too stupid to do the math. Average sets for women 2.5, average sets for men 4 and they get the same salary. Yeehaaa!! Equality!!! I would like to be in an office with you, where for the same salary I have to work 20-30 hours per week, and you have to work 30-50 hours. Boy, would you be bitchin'..... P.S.: For the mathematically challenged that is 150% inequality in the worst case scenario...
Both men and women are putting on a show, and it's equally entertaining. Women tennis is getting very interesting. It would be also stupid to say women can not play best of five matches. It can be a scheduling problem but it can be overcome. They play less sets probably because women started playing competitively much later and they were not this good at the beginning. I think this is good for women's tennis and tennis overall.
The only valid argument would be, if women tennis is watched by 40+% more viewers, thus the girls bring in more advertiser's money. Other than that, there is no reason for equal pay. Not to mention the inequality at Wimbledon was like 5% last year, or something like that, so it wasn't like a huge 30% lower salary.On CNBC the fact was mentioned that ladies also play more doubles and mixed games, because they have more time, thus the inequality is even bigger..
Last year Mauresmo played 17 sets to win the campionship, compared to Federer's 22 sets and got only 4.5% less money. The second places: Nadal played 23 sets compared to Hedin-Hardene's 15 sets... Women tennis is bringing more and more money in. Do not confuse this with physical labor where people get paid by the hour. This is like show business. And I'm sure they would gladly play 5 sets if they are asked to. The inequality at Wimbledon and others used to be that women were paid almost half the men were, not so long ago, IIRC, maybe 5 years.

Women don't play on the same level as men in any professional sport. Accordingly, they should be paid less.
Personally I think they should just have to play 5 sets like the men, they say they want to, they're getting paid for it, and if it really is so entertaining then why not? Actually when the whole thing started the williams sisters and I believe a couple others said they would happily play 5 sets like the men. As to if they really meant it or just wanted people on their side is another matter. I'm pretty sure that's just your neighbour dreaming. Now this is a good argument. A strong one indeed. The difference will be there for a long time. Tennis is one of the sports that women's game is being watched more and more. It's obvious that level of women's tennis is getting higher and it's getting to be more entertaining. So if you're paying your best players more money for four tourneys that means the competition will be fiercer, the games will be more enjoyable. I see this as an investment for the future. The level is not there but this little incentive will help boost it.
