Hey, If you're like me, you might be besieged by people calling you up asking for donations for all types of causes. So you ultimately relent and you give to one and I figure they sell your name to another charity, 'cause you get all sorts of calls from a wide range of charities from then on. Ironically, for a while my phone number was unlisted and I still got calls. So, perceiving (with maybe a few exceptions) a lot of well intentioned, benevolent and altruistic types among this forum membership, what's your favourite charity? Why? Mine's epilepsy, as one of my teenage son's had massive problems with a related condtion as an infant but is fine now. Can't support them all but I feel good giving to a few. Discuss
I use to give allot until I found out that over 70 percent of what I gave went into the pockets of the people running the charity. That's when I stopped. I don't see how or why my money can do anyone any good if it never reaches those who need it but ends up in the pockets of greedy bastards using a charity as a con game to get money for themselves. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Terry Fox....because he is basically a Canadian Icon/ Hero. He ran all across Canada on one leg, barely stopping to eat or rest. He ran until he could no longer run and the cancer took his life. His goal was to raise $1.00 from every Canadian. Now every yr there is the Terry Fox run, that each school participates in to raise money for cancer. It is basically the only charity I give to.
http://www.macmillan.org.uk/?utm_ca...illan Cancer&gclid=CLaAxMLnnJYCFQWR1QodsAq66g and why: because of all the support i am getting from them, when i am healthy and fit i will be doing some fund rasing events for them,
I don't give to charities, but I donate my time in cleaning up our forests. I'm tempted to give some money to a local dog shelter, but I can't afford that atm.
I've never given much to charity. I have worked in a charity shop for mental illness for a couple of days though. I couldn't say which is my favourite.
generally i only give to the SPCA and the salvation army(im not too keen on their religious aspect, but the amount of community work they do more than makes up for it), but the majority of the actual charity work i do is for heart children, seeing as my mum is a member and always asks for a hand whenever organising events or publishing brochures and whatnot. actually, i suppose you could add the cancer society to that, as i always put any small change i get into the donation tin at shops.
Huh? They aren't mailing them a cow. They buy it in their country where our money goes a lot farther. The cow has a calf, they have to pass it on to another. They can also make money from the milk or renting it out to pull plows.
