I'd like to get some pics of mine up. Will try and do so. Just have to run out to the store get a roll of film developed (my instant picture camera is worth crap)

Abit's version of the 266A No integrated features except ATA-133 RAID (part of VIA's newer second version of that SouthBridge I think - Abit uses HighPoint's RAID controller)

Athlon XP 1800+

512MB PC 2700 (two 256 DIMMs)

IBM 20GB, 7200, ATA-100 I guess it is their GXP Deskstar model. I know 20 gigs is not alot by today's standards, but it works for me, I've never used even 15 gigs of space before

LeadTek vendored :D GF 3 Ti 200, 128MB I'm thinking of getting a 64MB Ti 4200 possibly

D-Link 10/100 NIC

SB Live! X-gamer 5.1

CyberDrive 32x12x48

Acer 56x Max

Have my logitech 2x optical mouse of course. Just got myself a new Antec 400 watt power supply, and a pure copper heatsink with a 4500 RPM fan (ALOT less noisy than that damn thermaltake Volcano 6CU + 7100 RPM fan) My 80x80mm 4500 RPM back panel fan as well. The highest I've seen my processor get is 132 F degrees.

I'm running 98 SE.

Wow. I am very surprised you can run windows XP on that system. Supposedly you need something much more powerful than that just to run the thing,

Yep, my computer rocks. For years it ran games it supposedly couldn't run. Now, all the new games are too big and nasty for it. Can't do it any more.

Duron 700, 128Mb ram, crappy Nvidia tnt card, 40gb, sb player 5.1, dvd running mainly linux mandrake, sometimes win me (only for games :) ).
I love how big today's hard drives are... I would say they don't really need to get much bigger... I remember though how I used to worry about filling up 400mb all the time.. such pain.

Samsung justed anounced 60GB per platter a few weeks ago.........

This theoretically would allow for 240GB drives.

Good for mass servers, log archives, and porn collectors I guess. But otherwise it is just not needed and will only get people lazier and more into not maintaining their drives (let crud collect on there by never deleting anything or cleaning up, no defragging, and lots of crashes)

.............

But you prefer ME over 98 SE? I've heard it was a terrible system. If I ever change it will be to 2000 Pro. I am not going to bother spending weeks tweaking XP 64-bit edition with all of its spyware, security holes, forced features (like IE 6x and WMP 7x), and incompatabilities.

Aside from FAT32, the memory leaks, and being slightly less stable, I don't have a prob with 98 SE. Has alot less overheads than OS' like XP as well.

I agree with you that such HD sizes are unnecessary. I used to houseclean often in the HD. Don't hardly bother anymore. Plenty of room of MP3 files, pictures, games, ect. It is what came with the system, I did not build it. If I had my druthers it would have a different OS. XP has yet to show me a lot other than it slows down when it is updating, and it doesn't tell you it is doing it. It runs in the background and your internet speed slowing down is the only indication that is passing info. I finally found where to turn the thing off at. It is however, more compatable and stable than the other OS I have used.
