I didn't see this topic already posted, but on the chance, please forgive me if I am duplicating it.

I just learned today that apparently a "group" of black people are attempting to file massive law suits against 3 major companies. These companies are the Aetna insurance agency, CSX the railroad train company, and some Boston bank (don't recall the name).

They are attempting to sue them for at least 1.4 billion dollars over.......... slavery.

The "group" claims that in the past these companies had major involvment with slavery.

Uh, geeee. I don't see how you can prove the current people working for these companies hold the same beliefs as their ancestors. They're trying to gain money for things that are hundreds of years dead.

Course I don't quite see how the CEO's of these companies could get away with slavery in this day (perhaps they have some people they are torturing working their basement for them, big secret). Maybe they are discriminating against employees? Well the ones filing the suit weren't smart enogh to sue for that reason.

I don't know, maybe some spy overheard the fathers and grand fathers of the current owners, teaching their children racism 50 years ago - and the kids said they would uhold these beliefs for the rest of their lives, even if they couldn't get away with it.

The only effects left after the civil war are in history books (and perhaps some monuments), and america's structure as well as attitude towards certain racial issues and slavery.

I'm not a racist, but it seems to be that a bunch of christian black people were taught how to speak politely in front of TV camera, before being briefed on a possible way to easily make tons of money.

I either don't want to work for my money, or want alot more. While I'm at it, I'll call myself holy and attack these companies as being big satanic businesses that are obviously evil like some corrupt goverment.

None of the parties involved have felt that effects what happened over a century ago - in my opinion this is ridiculous.

On the news a few weeks ago I heard that a trio of blacks were suing this major power company because they were being discriminated against. They would get pictures of hanging people in their male, nooses were tied around telephone wires (for real!), it was terrifying. If this happens to be the same thing then I definitely think that the company should be disintegrated into the banking accounts of these poor, innocent people who just want to scrape out a living.

But, if we're talking about two different things, its probable that since slavery was legal while the companies were involved with slavery the whole thing'll be thrown out. It'd be like being sued over drinking alchohol before it became illegal, because at the time you were doing nothing wrong. I think we may need more info...

While I certainly do enjoy watching Corporate America take it on the chin once in a while, this ain't right.

I can see in a few decades Mexicans will sue the US for having denied them work permits and forced them to risk their lives crossing rivers and desserts to enter the US. Then will be exposed and recognized the inhumanity of a system that exploited Mexicans in such an inhuman way and their descendants will be paid handsome reparations. The fact that today those acts are legal will be no excuse.

Let's see... better check my ancestry; perhaps I am liable as well:
    • Sweden - innocent North and Baltic Sea villagers were looted, pillaged and raped by Vikings?
    • Spanish - Indians should sue me for the millions who died during the age of the conquistadors.
    • French - Descendents of the Huguenots have a case here.
    • German - Whew. That presents an obvious problem.
Perhaps in a few hundred years, Mexicans will sue the U.S. for denying them work permits and forcing them to risk their lives crossing rivers and desserts to enter the U.S. Then the inhumanity of a system that exploited Mexicans in such an inhuman way will be exposed and their descendants will be paid handsome reparations.

This is a very dangerous lawsuit, and hopefully some idiot judge will not take it seriously. After the ruling in the HUD case, however, I am concerned. Forced payment of reparations, even if it is some "evil" corporation, will only divide the gap between the races even further than it is now.

    Peace.
