It's the same size as a 3 1/2" floppy, but thicker.

View Full Version : What's this port/disk called? Oniw17 08-27-07, 09:10 PM It's the same size as a 3 1/2" floppy, but thicker. invert_nexus 08-27-07, 09:18 PM Probably a zip drive. Oniw17 08-27-07, 09:23 PM Thank you. Gustav 08-27-07, 10:44 PM oh? i was gonna go with a portable nuclear bomb take care anyway Pete 08-27-07, 11:12 PM Probably a zip drive. Or an LS-120... or were they the same size as the 1.44 floppies? James R 08-27-07, 11:43 PM I agree with invert. Sounds like it's probably a zip-drive disk to me. John99 08-28-07, 12:56 AM dont forget to mount it. one_raven 08-28-07, 01:02 AM dont forget to mount it. You don't have to do that anymore on windows. invert_nexus 08-28-07, 07:11 PM Actually I was thinking of a drive the size of a 1.44, not a 3 1/2. I don't think a zip drive is that big. leopold99 08-28-07, 07:19 PM Actually I was thinking of a drive the size of a 1.44, not a 3 1/2. I don't think a zip drive is that big. 1.44 is the size in megabytes, 3.5 or 3 1/2 is the size in inches. both of those can apply to the floppy drive (usually A but sometimes B). in essence then the floppy drive will hold a 3.5 inch 1.44 megabyte disc. superluminal 08-28-07, 07:44 PM It's a zip disk. invert_nexus 08-28-07, 08:11 PM 1.44 is the size in megabytes, 3.5 or 3 1/2 is the size in inches. both of those can apply to the floppy drive (usually A but sometimes B). in essence then the floppy drive will hold a 3.5 inch 1.44 megabyte disc. Derp. Yeah. That's right. I don't deal much in floppies these days. The big floppies were 5 1/4. Yup. Zip disk. James R 08-28-07, 08:24 PM The big floppies were 5 1/4. Going back even further, there were 8 inch floppies. leopold99 08-28-07, 08:25 PM Going back even further, there were 8 inch floppies. yes indeed, ye ol' IBM standard. MacGyver1968 08-28-07, 09:24 PM dont forget to mount it. There's a "That's what my girlfriend said" kinda joke just begging to be told...but...I....must....resist. :shake: kevinalm 08-28-07, 11:35 PM Or an LS-120... or were they the same size as the 1.44 floppies? Exactly the same physical dimensions as a 3.5 floppy. The ls120 drive itself was duplex, it would read/write/format either 120mb ls disks or 1.44 mb floppies. |
