Jewish Year: 5769 Chinese Year: 4706 Indian Year: 2065 Christian Year: 2009 Islamic Year: 1430 Iranian Year: 1387 Simply an interesting thought. What other year systems are there still in common practice? It's somewhat funny that Israel's long standing perpetually in practice Jewish year trumps the arch-nemesis Iran by 4382 years. I am shocked to see Indians only being at 2065. A question of discussion; what would be the social differences coming along with these numbers? I would see them as strongly tied to civility...that's right...China is far more socially civil than America.
Is this about religion or calendar systems? If the latter, I don't see any trumping by having more years in the current era.
Egotistic views on who's got it right instead of agreeing upon which one to use by everyone. What if no one was wrong and they all are correct, according to each ones own "beginnings"?
Calendar systems in these cases with potential exception to the Christian calendar marks the beginning of stability in the culture. The gregorian might not be as true...since for example Sweden didn't adopt it until much much later. Though the Chinese are clearly more socially evolved in their personal lives than most Europeans.
You are referring to the current calendar used by Iran established during the Seljuk sultanate. Iran has had several calendars before this one, this is just the modern one, which is still being used.
