You have to analyze it, pick, then carefully peel the grapefruit first.
The apple on the other hand just requires analysis, then picking. You pretty much just pull it off, and eat it. I'll pick the apple as my fav.
My second vote is for the tomato
cosmictraveler 03-30-08, 06:40 AM Baked Egg Plant maranated in miso sauce or baked rutabaga.:)
Orleander 03-30-08, 09:21 AM Name some of your favorite food that you eat as it is in nature and requires no preparation.

I'll say bananas
clusteringflux 03-30-08, 09:41 AM sunflower seeds
Hell yes! that's my 2nd fav. It also helped my kick tobacco.
Fish
I've tried the unprepared, sushi. It'll keep you alive but not a top pick of mine.
ummmm... Elk.
Ha. The last elk steak I had was at an elk farm close to my house. The owner threw it on the grill just long enough the kill the germs and gave it to me with a paper towel wrapped around it. by the time I was done I had blood to my elbow. I was suprised how good it was being very close to raw but I passed on seconds.
Definitely apples. And the best food you can take with you on a hike.

There's loads of wild garlic growing in the woods near me, and one day I decided to try some. I can tell you for free it's not the sort of thing I'd ever want unprepared again.

clusteringflux 04-02-08, 08:54 AM Me, too. And I don't care what others think.
Nuts.
I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.
clusteringflux 04-02-08, 09:03 AM you're nuckin futs
phlogistician 04-02-08, 09:44 AM Alfalfa sprouts. They are almost the perfect food. You could live on them alone for long periods and not show a degradation in health.

You can eat an egg raw.....
the way nature provided it.....
the rest is a bonus....
without the egg (as nature intended it) we wouldn't be here..
or woodrose seeds if you wanted to be padantic..
clusteringflux 04-04-08, 10:17 AM True. Very true. You may get salmonella but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
iceaura 04-04-08, 10:41 AM oysters
honeycomb
plums and cherries. (less hassle per volume than blueberries or blackberries)
pawpaws
grapes.
I don't think bananas count as wild.
Wild oats and clover flowers are pretty good.
Wintergreen berries for the surprise - everybody smiles.
Of that list, the plums are the best payoff to effort for me - unless you have a pawpaw in your back yard.
