People are defined by much more than where they time in each day. Being dressed in a suit in a stressful corporate environment pushing papers around and wondering when the next layoff or buyout is? No Thanx. I get 30k a year after taxes and in this area that is a comfy living. Especially being single.

mostly my uncle who was an S.A.S squad commander. who i have been speaking to recently because i was going to apply for a position in either MI5 or MI6,

he was telling me how the "action roles" are not what they specialize in, they are more active in data work. i train with KGB members who are my uncles friends also. all action related espionage and tactical missions are reserved for military personel.

my uncle was explaining to me that the secret services are nothing like james bond movies. and that all that type of action takes place within S.A.S operations. he was telling that the closest i can get to being a real "james bond" is to get involved with the S.A.S and special paratrooper regiments.

most agents dont even carry guns or train in hand to hand combat. they are more like office hacker types, than macho commando types who snap peoples necks and rescue prisoners etc.

Well of course those James Bond kind like actionful operations are reserved for the military. You didn't think they would pick people from the street for that, did you? :D
Those people already have the proper skills and training, as well as combat rediness, ability to follow military orders in the field, etc.

yeah but i used to think that they actualy did james bond type of operations. ofcourse i didnt think that they were given all of the gadgets and that everything was true to life. but i did think that agents took on action roles and got to kick some ass.

and that was a nice idea to me, because as an agent you are not military, so you dont get sent to war. and i would never join the army to gain S.A.S access. so that action ass kicking dream of mine is over.

Well, army is an option, just try to get into spec ops units, not the regular army if you don't want to patrol the streets of Iraq, but be advised that even in a spec ops unit you could be sent to anywhere in the world where special operations are carried out.

Pretty much any of the true espionage stories of WWII are worth a read; plus the factual reporting from within the concentration camps. The one that got to me the most was Medical Block, Buchenwald: The Personal Testimony of Inmate 996, Block 36; I read it when I was 12 or 13 and its always stayed with me, the things people are capable of doing to each other.

i read about war alot, mostly tactical books though not personal accounts and stories. and i mostly read about ancient and old wars, i read up on modern tactical warfare though, but mostly technical books about weapons and strategy. im not a big fan of reading personal gory accounts of torture and the emotions behind it. im more likely to read up on how best to torture people and the tactics involved in using it effectively :).

like how to torture people without leaving a single mark on them as proof. ie water torture, white noise or my personal favorite, beating the soles of peoples feet with bamboo sticks.
