View Full Version : What makes your life worthwhile? marv 09-11-05, 08:27 PM What is it in your life that you think or do that makes it worthwhile? Just curious. cato 09-11-05, 08:57 PM the fact that I am pretty sure I only get one shot (I am an atheist). I mean, I only get one shot to do... anything, so I choose to live, learn, grow, and contribute. the "only one shot" way of thinking puts me close to suicide also though, my life has only the value I give it by living a life I like, so if my life ever went to hell, you can can be pretty sure I would end it. however, I don't think that is going to happen, because I have the will it takes to make a good life. Pythagoras 09-11-05, 09:37 PM Hello, this is my first post here...Let's see how I do. Life itself is a journey. For every living thing, the process is to Grow, Interact, and Die. How you choose to face this process is how you define your life. When you grow, do you just age? Is it just a physical growth? Or are you commited to the growth of your mind and soul? Everything learns, in an attempt to become bigger, better, stronger. It's what you choose to learn that sets you apart. As humans, we have the ability to absorb and learn a wealth of information, but so many choose to be close minded and live wearing blinders. As you take each breath in life, each step, you Interact. It's your Interactions that form your every thought, response, and further movement through life. How do you choose to Interact with everything that surrounds you? There are many a floating theories on what happens once you pass this life, maybe this life is a constant test of your Actions, Interactions, and Reactions. Will you fear death as it comes for you? Do you openly mourn and grieve the loss of other living things? Is it a selfish loss? Or a genuine feeling of life not yet fullfilled? To die, you must have lived. Who can judge whether that life has met it's purpose? Certainly not you or I, and our loss does not change the neverending cycle..that is life itself. After all this babbling, I will say yes, my life is worthwhile, because I've acknowledged my limitations, I strive to be better, and I accept whatever comes my way... This I find in other areas of life is just not true, I find that people devoid of Art and self expression spend most of their lives attempting to make other lives like my own pure hell. So for me its ART, its the fact that someone out there created something that is aimed at making me feel good not bad! cosmictraveler 09-12-05, 01:27 PM That perhaps one day I'll find true love. Ericc 09-12-05, 01:30 PM That perhaps one day I'll find true love. Ah! May you find it soon my friend and in full! cosmictraveler 09-12-05, 01:35 PM It is getting rather late in my life but I still am searching, thanks. TruthSeeker 09-12-05, 01:37 PM What makes your life worthwhile? My daughter. PS: Are you talking about what makes me wake up in the morning and fight? Cause that's the answer for that. Ericc 09-12-05, 01:38 PM Its never to late for love, it just gets a bit more painfull to express it! c7ityi_ 09-12-05, 01:45 PM what makes my life worthwhile, nothing Pi-Sudoku 09-14-05, 11:36 AM The knowledge that i can die And Sudoku SativaDiva 09-14-05, 02:08 PM The fact that I am in control of my own destiny. Onefinity 09-17-05, 01:58 AM A student that I worked with for a year and a half in junior high school is now a sophomore in high school. Today he showed me an essay he wrote about someone who made a big difference in his life. He wrote about me. He said that I helped him learn, that I didn't put him down, that I encouraged him to do things for himself. He said I helped him turn his life around. I felt a peak in worthwhileness today. Everyone is however much they deny it. If your life is defined by the fear of dying, then you fear life itself. Perhaps it is natural to fear death. But if you are ready for it, in spite of that fear, then perhaps you are ready to live life fully. c7ityi_ 09-20-05, 06:47 AM I live because I'm afraid of dying. Everyone is however much they deny it. You're wrong. I'm afraid of living, but not death itself, it "interrests" me. dr. cello 09-20-05, 11:49 AM life, love, art, philosophy. beauty. Onefinity 09-20-05, 08:18 PM You're wrong. I'm afraid of living, but not death itself, it "interrests" me. Does death have an "itself," or is the idea of death integral to life, with all considerations of death being reflections upon aspects of life, and having impact upon living? gratitude&love 09-21-05, 08:35 PM What is it in your life that you think or do that makes it worthwhile? Just curious. well marv i'd have to say, you, and all here, anyone i can effect for the positive. (hasn't always been that way but ever since i found everything. I, no longer matter. since then my life has been very exciting, and surely worthwhile) what makes yours worthwhile? Cottontop3000 09-22-05, 08:18 PM Exactly, you no longer matter, gratitude and fucking love. You've chosen to flee, rather than try to make a fucking difference. Fucking scum-bag christians. I'd eat every last one of you morons if I could. beesmn 09-22-05, 08:47 PM Onefinity wrote: A student that I worked with for a year and a half in junior high school is now a sophomore in high school. Good job beesmn 09-22-05, 09:02 PM Every morning and several times each day after that, I think about what makes my life worth living. There are days when no answer seems to come to me. Fear of dying is most likely the default answer then. Other days have enough distractions to limit that consideration. I didn't think I'd make it to this age so each decent day is gravy, each indecent day is another brick to carry until the next decent day when the brick either slides off of my back or my back adjusts to its weight. It isn't clear how many bricks I will be able to carry but I am convinced I must have a strong back. As I sit here at work, the damn bricks are piling up and I need to find a place to drop them before I pull a nut. Thanks for the question Marv.
