my computer is AMD Duron 1 GHz, 256 MB PC133 Ram.

40 GB HDD, partitioned into 2 equal partitions,

installed with dual OS, Windows ME and Windows XP Home edition.

I surf with IE 6.0 and MSN Explorer.

How about you ?

Ok, might as well answer

I have a 1ghz Celeron Processor overclocked at 1.33ghz;)

40Gb HDD (almost full after two months :( )

I have Windows 2000 Pro and will be updating to XP pretty soon

I have a GeForce 2 400mx 64mb :(

I also have 512mb of RAM though I did have more, but I had to give some to a friend :bugeye:

Futurist

how do you overclock?
easy?
can it shorten your CPU life?

it may burn, right?

Thor
09-30-02, 06:19 AM
It may crash and burn, but thats not a problem for me as I can get parts extremly cheap

To overclock, you have to tinker around in the BIOS, but some processors can't be overclocked so you'll need to reset the BIOS if you put in the wrong one :bugeye:

Thor, buy a new one, get P4 2.53 GHz,
got the budget?

ask papa or mama to give you $$$$$$$:D

Thor
09-30-02, 06:25 AM
I don't really need a new one just yet so why waste my money

Mama and Papa don't have the $$$$$$$$ yet

I think he is asking why you choose to run Windows ME as one of your two OS's.

Futurist
09-30-02, 11:59 PM
because Windows ME has many new features , more stylish than Windows 98/95.

stability is good too.

and, most important, i can play Games.

athelon 1.2 Underclocked to 900 :(
why: because the monther board i got cant get to 133 bus speed maxes out at 115 and it is very instable on 115 bus speed and the multiplier on the stupid cpu is only 9 !

- i run win2K, (love this os by the way)
- voodoo 3 graphics card
- sound blaster 16 (on an isa) sound card :)
- 768 megs of SD-RAM
- 20 and a 40 gig hard disk

I had an old 333 celery that i managed to get to 500 mhz before but now 500 mhz is no big deal :)

yes my computer is old and very outdated, but who cares my computer isnt my priority any more hehehe.

No worries, your computer is outdated when they ship it out of the manufacturing place, as long as it does what you want it to :D

Yup. I've got a G4 667 MHz in a Powerbook. 1 gig of RAM, 60 gig hard disk, CD-RW/DVD-ROM, running OS 10.2.1. Having unix underneath a nice interface is really fantastic; I love being able to open a Terminal window for either programming or tweaking the system. Meanwhile, I've got all the regular productivity software: the Adobe suite, the Office suite, Mathematica, and when the need arises (mostly for online poker) I start up Virtual PC Windows 2000 pro.

I thought this was titled "what is your OS?" Oh well...

I'm only on a PIII 500mhz 768Mb P-133Mhz DIMM SDRAM A-BIT BH6 V 1.0 Motherboard, previously only a 10GB hard-drive, but today I rebuilt the system.

I Got it a new box (A P4 box) to replace it's old box, since it was a bit battered and war torn and gave it a new 40Gb drive, just to top it up.

OS = Win98, purely because I don't need 2000 or XP acting a memory/processor hog.

But I'm a junky when it comes to OS's, I just need to get hold of a MAC then you can say I've run with virtually all of them.

Microsoft= DOS, Win3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Haven't played with XP yet.

Linux= Debian, Suse, FreeBSD. (Still not the others yet)

Commodore= C16, C64, Amiga (retro's)

Some other systems too, like BBC's, Spectrums, Atari's even a telex system once upon a time.

With or without the, what was it? 16k plug-in RAM?

Talk about memories!

Still have mine and some tapes somewhere or other.

Thankx for the reminder.

There's a 16k upgrade?!?!

This one only has the 4k upgrade... if I had 16k, I could multitask!

It would be wise for us modern computer geeks to never forget our origins... the good old, bad old, 1-mhz-if-you're-lucky days.

When can we get 64 bits processors?

Chagur
10-02-02, 10:01 PM
Maybe it was only 4k, thought it was 16k ...

Plugged in right rear, stood vertical. Bummer part was
that if it wiggled or jiggled - bummer! Ended up gluing
it and the T/S down on a masonite base and no more
problems.

And no ... I'm too lazy to dig around to find it, maybe
one of these days when I'm bored.

Take care

And I thought I was the only one who knew or had a Sinclair 1000, complete with cassette drive...

Chagur
10-02-02, 11:25 PM
That was the story!

Started with the Sinclair, switched to the T/S
because it had 4k of ram, added the plug-in.

Thanks for saving me from having to rumage
around. ;)

hmm a 486 @ 66Mhz
16Mb ram
no HD
no OS (it does have freesco)
no CD ROM
a floppy drive

for some reason Quake 3 doesn't work on my computer :)

Stryder
10-13-02, 07:06 AM
Somehow Bachus I don't think that computer runs.

I have a 486 x 66Mhz sitting around, it was once a fine piece of kit.

Problem is now, it's old. Once I blew the fuse in the power pack, I opened the box up and had a look, the fuse was soldered to the board, so I couldn't replace it.

So I just took a strip of copperwire from an old headphone set, and wound it around the fuse. (DON'T DO THAT AT HOME!)
I would be running it now as apart of my LAN network, but I can't leave it running for too long incase it blows up.
