    free only?

Would you consider donating for a freely available blocker? Whatever you feel is right. I don't have one but was wondering if you would further the gift economy.

The best pop-up remover is the Firebird browser.

Firebird is the browser-only project from the Mozilla. I've used Firebird since version 0.1 (when it was still called phoenix), and it's a rock-solid standards compliant browser. With usefull side-effects like pop-up blocking, cookie blocking, and plug-ins.

Read why you should use Firebird in a Joel on Software column.

Or you could go get a different browser, like Mozilla. If you are not a complete computer n00b you will find the tools necessary.

I had Stopzilla! for about a month (then the free trial ran out) and it worked pretty ok. But that statement is moot because you only want free blockers.

I am noticing a very disturbing new trend in spam - and apparently these are authorized by Microsoft!! Last night, whilst working on a site that produced buttons, I got disturbed in mid flow by an "internet explorer" advert that completely took over the screen, with no close or back buttons, advertising spam blockers from Microsoft!!!!

The only way I could get rid of it, and it came back once more, was the "three finger salute" and lo and behold, there it was as a full running program!!!

    Bill Gate - shove it!

My AV is up to date and firewall is operating normally but it claimed to be an integral part of XP and apparently came into my pc from an authorized update from Microsoft. If I find the offending Qdownload, I will put it where the sun does not shine!

Edit: Red Rover: Trying out emsfreesurfer now, lets hope it works. So easy to install and run, even for me!!

Red Rover: 48 hours later and it works just fine!!
