Why do you like Astronomy? Why do you love spending hours behind your telescope (if you have one)? Perhaps a deep question, but an interesting one!
To me astronomy has nothing to do with telescopes. I don't have one, I do not need one. I prefer the theoretical work. And since I have no carreer in the field, I love reading popular ((theoretical) astro) physics

I would have to say "It is a window to God's creation" for me, even though I am an atheist. What I mean is that, aside from the fascinating nature & jaw-dropping beauty of the universe, I feel like the only way we can truly understand how we came to be & the "secret of life" is by exploring the universe, both experimentally & theoretically. Not that I ever expect to find "purpose" for mankind -- of that I am sure there is none -- but nevertheless we can learn about our origin & fate.
