What if this is not reality, but virtual reality? Then you wake up in reality one day, and are told that everything you experienced in your whole entire life was nothing more than a dream. (Or nightmare depending on your experience).

Now say you don't wake up one day, but find out while you are in thie virtual reality that it is not real. You are in a virtual world while your body is in suspended animation in the real world. That means everything you have done through your entire existence in this virtual world probably doesn't mean much. Everything you do from now on knowing that it is not real anyway, but a dream will no longer exist once you wake up in the real world. Would you do anything differently or live your life in this virtual reality any differently?

I don't see how this reality is fundamentally different from a virtual reality.
Each night our subjective reality is the dream world, and we don't know any other.
Each day it is this, and it is still subjective and we don't know any other.
There is no difference, only the physics may change.

What happened a moment ago and everything before that moment now ceases to exist except in my memory.

I am led to believe my memory is real based on the association I make with what is around me now and what I remember as being around me a moment ago.

Interestingly this is how it is with dreams till we wake up.
We will not be aware of this unreality until we wake up.

Now sometimes in dreams we do wake up, we become lucid.

What should happen if we become 'lucid' in this dream. Madness I expect until we can wake up.

What is waking up in this dream called ? death

Note to answer your question Lix

I have a had few dreams which felt like they lasted years. I had a family I loved. I knew I was waking up and I bid them goodbye. For a few days after I was unsettled and sad. I missed my dream family.

I had memory of them , no different to real memories.

My consolation is..telling myself they weren't real. I disgard those memories as fake.

Now, should a hypnotist awake me and tell me my family now was a 'suggestion' and not real I'd be very unhappy but assuming he was telling the truth, I'd adapt.

We react to what we think is 'real' not that which we KNOW is imaginary.

I'd find it hard to live in the virtual world but I'd try to. I'd be very sad while I longed for my dream world back. How long those feelings last depends on how happy I am in the new/real world.

I used to prefer being asleep one time in my life. Now I like being awake.

oh yeah and if i woke up from a deam world into the real world, i would try to find out where i came from and who my family were. i would miss my wife and family and most likely cry as if they all just died,

then i would go and get back to my training and find the nearest shaolin temple or martial arts school.

peace.

You mean what if you're not really an unemployed loser, leaching off society as bugs crawl over you in the night?
