I like the people and Tony Blair. He has been a good ally. Some of the people I have met from the UK are a bit stuffy at first but I always loosen them up and end up having fun with them.

I guess what I mean is , they still can't seem to get rid of that "class" system over there, they will hang on to it until they cease to be a nation.

I think they're fine. I'm not going to judge a whole country based on stereotypes, and a small amount of contact.

I must say this thread is totally uncalled for, we English people have not a care what foreigners think of us, gads we used to rule most of the world ,and
out of the kindness of our hearts gave it back, and now the ungrateful whelps moan about us, disgraceful i say.

What does the world think of the u.k

Well, i know Australians can give pommies a bit of a ribbing, but at the end of the day, we like them. it's funny because it's like a love hate relationship... lol. nah, well every aussie i know likes the uk, or at least doesn't have a problem with em.

i've never actually met someone from the UK before, but i'm not about to start hacking out a bunch of people i've never met or even talked to, it's just not who i am. And i hate when people have preconceived ideas/thoughts about a nation or person, when they've never even met them. it doesn't make sense to me...

Well i like pommies (BTW, i'm sorry if that term offends you i'm just to lazy to write it proper), even though i've never met one. Give them the benefit of the doubt, until you have a reason to dislike them... :D

BenTheMan
06-04-07, 09:18 PM

Ok NOT Climate and NOT Geography(other than both are Rough).

History. Length of time since colonization by British. WWI(we even served on the same front for a span), ANZACs at Gallipoli and Canadians at Vimy Ridge. Very similar and the after effects IDENTICAL - Nationhood at least the feeling of it. Both became nations on their own in the 30s. WWII we differed only in campaigns and again mirrored after effects. After the war both countries had major european immigration and in the 70s to today, immigration from the same commonwealth India/pakistan/etc. as well as east asia.

Generally people of the two countries promote a good sense of humour(notice how I spell that) over most other qualities at least in passing. We both do not generally value "class" and have disdain for it. You have a strong tie with New Zealand and we well...we convinced Newfoundland to JOIN us.

I could go on and on. Aussies and Canucks go together like peas and carrots....mmmhhhhmmm.

London itself has interesting Museums, As a city its pretty good, but i've seen better, The one thing i like is the News Media, I find BBC quite reliable and informative than most sources, However, Its not on the International Stage as often i'd like to see today but that may be because the media focuses on the US more. . .

???

Try again.

In any case, I think the UK is great.

Great architecture, great food, beautiful open natural spaces, excellent transportation infrastructure, proximate enough to mainland Europe, and OK beer.

Maybe I should have said " Modern " democracy..

It is still the same thought though..

Take away everything that came out of the UK and what would be left ???

England. The cradle of democracy.

English. The language of world tradeWhile I think they are more liberal than America (come to think about it, very few countries aren't), the conservatives are still a very reserved lot, almost pretentious. I don't get why they never changed the name West indian to native American, I mean "west indians" and East indians have nothing in common so why didn't they ever change that name? They made a mistake in thiking America was india, fine, but why did they stick to the name? No respect for other cultures. Just a thought.

Yeah, what with our unarmed Police force. We are not told to keep our hands visible by traffic cops lest we get shot when we are pulled over! Who is is it that gets bullied by armed forces in the employed of the Govt? Not us!
