Air is molecules, ether is fiction. Does that answer the question?

I take it that you meant "Friction" instead of fiction ? Yes, ether causes friction / photondecay...

    Yes,

They've mathematically proven that an "ether" can't exist. I'm too God damn lazy to look up the proof for you. Though trust me when I tell you; anybody who believes in the ether is a moron.

And like beercules said, air is molecules of gaseous matter. I'm not clear on how you might question the existance of air. :bugeye:

"They've" also proven that the cosmological constant did not exist and now it seems that "they" have to ressurect it. I do agree however that you are lazy.

And questioning the existance of air would be as ridiculous as questioning the existence of ether.

    Who exactly are they ?

And questioning the existance of air would be as ridiculous as questioning the existence of ether.

THAT'S your argument ? Using your logic, it would be as ridiculous to question the existence of dentists as questioning the existence of the tooth fairy.

hehe - at least you have a sense of humor.

Air exists and has been proven to exist. There is no evidence for the existance of the luminiferous aether and the need for it as an explanation is gone. Has been gone since Einstien's general relativity...or was it special relativity? Whatever, too buzzed to care.

Air and Ether are linked through two versions of the MM experiment (acoustic and optical) , the tooth fairy and dentists are not linked by any experiments that I know of.

The null result of the optical experiment was used to draw the conclusions that ether did not exist.

Likewise following the same logic, a null result for the acoustic MM experiment (where the medium measured was not ether but air) also gave a null result,

Now if you dismiss the existence of ether as medium you also throw away the existence of air, but I suppose the toothfairy helps you to breath in a vacuum?

"They" are those that hold on to oldskool relativity theory eventhough evidence and reasonable doubt is stacking up against them , most noticable the re-introducton of the cosmologic constant.

Also in an old thread you yourself mentioned that the Higgs Field act a lot like good old ether, except that it has no measurable spin etc...

Good, cause in the M-theory you will measure this spin at higher planes.

Read the thread ether meets M-theory and you will hopefully understand why your relativity theory fails to produce a grand unification of everything theory because it is limited to 4 dimensions (if you include time) while string theorists speculate about 6, 10,11 and even 26 dimensions on a daily basis.

Hey now Vortexx, I didn't go calling you a donkey-sodomizing son of a whore. I reserve that language for politics.

And who is "we"? Do you have multiple personalities or something?

I am confused. Michealson and Morley tried to test for the existence of air? I don't remember hearing of this. Nor do I think that the apparatus they used would be such as to detect the existence of air.

we are the borg resistance is useless.

The original MM experiment was done with light, later on many times other people repeated the MM experiment using much more precise equipment, same result, which confirmed ether was dead.

    But was it?

The MM was also repeated with acoustics:

Just like sounds travels using air as a medium, it was speculated that light travels through ether , even in a vacuum.

the MM experiment, using light, concluded that there could not be an ether medium ,

likewise the acoustic MM concluded that there could be no air for the sound to propagate through!!!

We all know there is air, so while not proving the existence of ether directly it proves that the MM experiments can not be used to disprove the existence of ether.

I just finished reading "Demon Haunted World" by Carl Sagan, he specifically mentioned the theory of aether and that it is no longer necessary to explain electromagnetism.

    Sagan quotes Richard Feynman:
Maxwell invented aether as an explanation for how waves could propagate through a vacuum. It turns out that electromagnetic waves (light) support themselves and require no "aether".

    They both exist...

...if you just redefine ether as the coupling of the Higgs-Kibble Mechanism to all mass. The substance of nothing.
