(i don't know if a similar question like this has been posted before, so sorry if it has)

My friend and I were arguing about what we thought was the most well known song in the entire universe and she came to the conclusion that Elvis’ Jail house rock was the most known song.

Obviously there is no sure way to know the answer without some kind of census, but what do you think is the most well known song in the world???

Difficult: I just googled for "best known song" and the list said "everyone knows these and will always sing along"
Half of them I've never heard of and half the remainder I leave the room for the duration if I can...

If you mean a song that's sung, with lyrics, you get into the language problem. The most well-known song among Chinese people is not going to be the most well-known song among Indian people.

For anglophones, I'd suggest "Amazing Grace." It has the advantage that it's often played instrumentally. I've even heard it at a Scottish funeral, played on the bagpipes. (In a movie anyway.) Other than that, I'd suspect it's something by the Beatles, probably a tossup among a dozen or more of their songs. Some psychologist performed a test recently to see how easy certain songs were to recognize. He got the highest score by just playing that one dissonant electric guitar chord that starts off "A Hard Day's Night."

"Jailhouse Rock"? No. As a bar band musician, I'd have to say that "Johnny B. Goode" beats it cold. That was the song that overnight established the guitar as the defining instrument of rock and roll. Before that, the argument was over whether it would be the piano or the tenor saxophone. The guitar wasn't even in the running, because of the lame western swing riffs that were used as guitar solos.

I believe you're talking about The death March of the Marionettes. Either that or the bugle song Taps.

The second would have to be Auld Lang Syne.

If my memory serves me right, White Christmas was most selling single in the globe in some period then in vinyl times, it could be pretty high too.
