View Full Version : What constitutes an 'atmosphere' ? pcd2k 12-18-01, 09:46 AM Its my hypothesis that one day we will be able to create "mini' atmospheres, for future space stations and space travel. Chagur 12-18-01, 12:42 PM The hell with space stations and space travel, we may need them right here on Earth in certain areas (ex. Mexico City) :D Take care. ;) Adam 12-18-01, 01:08 PM Atmos is Greek for vapour. Sphaira is Greek for sphere. A planetary sciences term for an envelope of gas around a planet. But of course it's come to mean simply gas we breathe. So that's what constitiutes an atmosphere. Dreamsa 12-19-01, 04:49 AM We need something to enclose the place we need to create the atmosphere and injet the gas. My imagination! Cover up Mexico City.;) Teg 12-19-01, 11:36 AM 101000 Pascals!:D I couldn't help myself. Actually the definition for atmosphere is very broad. Venus has an atmosphere, but it would not be a very friendly one. I think you are talking about the Earth's atmosphere. In that case it would be any self- sustaining environment capable of supporting life. My guess is that we would need a plant-animal life cycle capable of producing O2 and CO2. |
