View Full Version : What brings us the most happiness? Why? 08-21-07, 12:04 PM I read a poll in the newspaper that said most teenagers cite their families as the greatest source of happiness. Anyone disagree? cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 12:14 PM And here I thought it was sex, drugs and rock and roll! ;) MacGyver1968 08-21-07, 12:18 PM Blowjobs...definitely blowjobs. Why? 08-21-07, 12:42 PM Yeah, but what brings you happiness between blowjobs? cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 12:52 PM Probably a hand job, masturbation. :D Why? 08-21-07, 01:02 PM That's a disturbing life. sisyphus__ 08-21-07, 01:11 PM I agree. Normally, for those normal that is, happiness is supplied by their families and such. But of course this could be elaborated on a little bit. And, as the title goes, you are asking "What brings us the most happiness" which supplies this line of though very well. A sense of well being brings us happiness, a family (when we are 0-25 years old) supplies happiness, and the general picture, the general familariaty with things such as friends and a life.... What ever meaning or objective qualities go into this I would not know... Happiness for 0-25 is likely and most normally the greatest quality. Happiness is the goal of life. This is from Aristotle I think. What does he mean? And why has this statement been denied by existentialists? If you deny that happiness is the goal of life, then you are denying yourself the freedom to happiness. Why? 08-21-07, 01:34 PM Why are you limiting yourself to 0-25? Are you saying something different for over 25? draqon 08-21-07, 01:36 PM feeling of accomplishment sisyphus__ 08-21-07, 01:52 PM As one grows older, naturally, past the age of 25, usually a person will get his or her own life. I don't know if family would still be the main ..headline projecting happiness onto you. I was simply stating a few things about the thread which must be taken into consideration. After 25 yes, there are different things happening. Family is still a great feeling of happiness, but is not the biggest. For example if you take my grandmother. She lives alone, and her happiness may be dependant upon her family, but I seriously doubt that you could say that this is her happiness. Or if it is, then it is not for everyone. Family may be one of the greatest things I give you that. Can someone else elaborate PLEASE? And if fraggle_rocker deciedes to comment, ... LoL... I'd like to see him elaborate a bit on happiness universally and related with family. Common Fraggle Rocker! Why? 08-21-07, 03:21 PM After 25, you can have your own family. So, why wouldn't the same hold true? Wisdom_Seeker 08-21-07, 03:36 PM I don´t think real happinness is one that is subject to impermanence... Real happiness is bliss, and it is to learn to be alone (not lonely). Why? 08-21-07, 03:38 PM Being alone doesn't sound like fun. Wisdom_Seeker 08-21-07, 03:38 PM The awakened sages call a person wise when all his undertakings are free from anxiety about results; all his selfish desires have been consumed in the fire of knowledge. The wise, ever satisfied, have abandoned all external supports. Their security is unaffected by the results of their action; even while acting, they really do nothing at all. Free from expectations and from all sense of possession, with mind and body firmly controlled by the Self, they do not incur sin by the performance of physical action. Krishna from The Bhagavad Gita cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 03:40 PM Travel anywhere you want and never be afraid or worried about anything. Wisdom_Seeker 08-21-07, 03:41 PM Being alone doesn't sound like fun. I can learn to be alone, and I have a wife; I mean, being alone is just to be happy with yourself, with no need for external stimuli. This does not mean you need to go to a cave in the Himalayas, I mean, this can be done in the confort of your home. Orleander 08-21-07, 03:41 PM feeling of accomplishment I agree. It makes me happy to know I'm doing something with my life. Whether its family, charity, work... Just getting up every morning and making the most of it. Accomplishing having a life. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 03:46 PM I agree. It makes me happy to know I'm doing something with my life. Whether its family, charity, work... Just getting up every morning and making the most of it. Accomplishing having a life. And what have you accomplished in your life to this point that people in the future will remember you by? Orleander 08-21-07, 03:55 PM And what have you accomplished in your life to this point that people in the future will remember you by? My legacy is my children and the people I have helped. That whole pay it forward thing. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 03:57 PM In under 100 years no one will remember anything about you except a pohotograph and a few distant memories. That holds true for 99.9 % of the people on Earth. Orleander 08-21-07, 03:58 PM In under 100 years no one will remember anything about you except a pohotograph and a few distant memories. That holds true for 99.9 % of the people on Earth. I don't care. I'm hoping for the whole butterfly affect of goodness. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 04:02 PM While the good people are trying to help, others are taking advantage and are polluting, crimes, greed, corruption and many other counterproductive things. Orleander 08-21-07, 04:04 PM While the good people are trying to help, others are taking advantage and are polluting, crimes, greed, corruption and many other counterproductive things. and that's why I feel such a sense of accomplishment when my husband buys meds for a little old lady. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 04:07 PM LOL, here we go again!! ;) shorty_37 08-21-07, 04:53 PM and that's why I feel such a sense of accomplishment when my husband buys meds for a little old lady. yeah yeah he is a hero. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 05:16 PM and that's why I feel such a sense of accomplishment when my husband buys meds for a little old lady. He did it, not you so why are you taking credit? shorty_37 08-21-07, 05:18 PM He did it, not you so why are you taking credit? good question cosmic. How do you have a sense of accomplishment from it? Orleander 08-21-07, 05:29 PM My goodness rubbed off on him. :) He wouldn't have done that before me. Too suspicious....hmmm, sounds familiar cosmic?? lol My accomplishment there is no different than if my child had done it. I raised them right, I trained him right.:D cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 05:33 PM My goodness rubbed off on him. :) So he wasn't a "good person" when you met him? You had to educate him what was right and wrong to do and when to do it. I'd think not. Orleander 08-21-07, 05:34 PM So he wasn't a "good person" when you met him? You had to educate him what was right and wrong to do and when to do it. I'd think not. He was good. He just wasn't very charitable. cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 05:38 PM And what have you done charitable lately? Orleander 08-21-07, 05:43 PM A car broke down, I pulled over. They already had someone coming, but I had just gotten groceries so I gave them all a bottle of juice. I would have done more, but they didn't need more. and you? cosmictraveler 08-21-07, 05:44 PM I'm listening to you.;) |
