    Worst:

"I am an American." It is so irritating I have to switch channel. Total waste of money in my opinion.

Singular. Their commercial is so stupid that it is very offensive. Most of you probably don't remember what their commercials look like because they are so ineffective. I only know because I work in the communication industry.

Any car commercials. I remember a lot of commericals and even the music or songs in it but I don't remember what brand it is. If an average guy can't remember the brand, then it is ineffective. Even if I remember the brand, I don't think I will buy the car based on the commercial.

    Best:

Mike's hard lemonade. It is disturbing which makes it effective. I see a lot of people drink those in a bar. That brand went from an unknown to a known. That commercial is a success.

    Best (so far):
Gatorade commercial with Jose Theodore, and Cujo!!! Yeah!! They're my 2 fave hockey players, and it's great to see them in commercials, earning a little more cash. It pisses me off that Cujo was traded! Argh!

    Worst (so far):
Buck a Day computer commercial. The way they sing the song, it sounds like "I'm knock knock knocking, on F*ck a Day's door!"
    RoFL!

The worst has to be the advert for Halifax bank. Its got two hideous looking middle age people in a suit dancing around singing such songs as Who gives you extra to the tune of Who let the dogs out and one song "Then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you" but they change the lyrics to some corny rubbish about banking and money

It is a futile attempt on humour

There is no worst ... but on the sunny side of the street ....

    The Worst:

I don't think I can pick a "worst". There are so many that are so bad as to be "off the scale" that I can't begin to fathom the bottom of the barrel. A couple brief notes:

    • I'm hardly going to call it indecent, but what should I say to the guy who wrote the Kia Sportage (is that what it's called?) commercial that basically advised that you would have so much fun with the vehicle that you would shit yourself?

    • I'm not at all a fan of the Bugles snacky-snack commercial based on the Alien movies.

    • There is a "male enhancement" commercial (not Viagra) that is absolutely frightening. Viagra, incidentally, has retaliated with a less-ridiculous version of what is, essentially, the same commercial. Guy comes into work, everyone thinks he's acting funny, turns out that he's finally able to get it up.

    The Best:

    • An old advert I've only seen once, for Gold Bier, which was a very French-looking creation with mechanical special effects and so forth. It's not quite a long-take but originally looks to be styled after one, and also bears the influence of Terry Gilliam, most likely indirectly (I've never heard that he had anything to do with the commercial.) But it starts with a woman's fake fingernail coming off and landing in a bowl of soup being carried by a waiter, progresses to a fly diving into the soup, and ends up in a menagerie of chaos, disgusting images, and animals running amok. And then it cuts to a civilized waiter in a tux with the product on a tray. "And now for something with good taste ...." Damn fine spot, if you ask me.

    • The Cartoon Network has basically allowed its creative teams to go nuts with the advertising. In anticipation of the PowerPuff Girls movie, a deluge of new ads made the PPG's the center of the network for a short while. What's impressive about CN's adverts is that they seem to let the writers go crazy. There was a network spot featuring a down-and-out (possibly drunk) Scrappy Doo railing at his fellow cartoon "stars" as they entered what I think was an awards ceremony. But my current favorite is a PPG spot where Blossom slams into a guy's window, and two people come out ... "What is it? It's Blossom. Don't touch it, don't touch it ..." And so forth. Absolutely priceless. Of course, I'm a fan of Tartakovsky's creations (PPG, Dexter, and Samurai Jack) so that helps.

    My overall favorite:

    • My current overall favorite TV commercial is from the one and only Ad Council. As a note to internationals, the Ad Council is a former wartime propaganda extension of the US government. In fact, I think they're the ones responsible for the annoying "I am an American" spot. But more than just propaganda, they make PSA's (public-service announcements) against drug abuse, toward home fire safety, and so forth. But they have an incredible spot that starts with a guy in beige slacks and a blue work shirt walking through the park. He's well-dressed, clean, groomed. He sets his case down on the sidewalk in the park, pulls out a violin, and begins playing classical music with passion. A woman, walking through the park with her son, notices the violinist immediately, and as they approach, she begins to smile. The son, however, walks by, says, "Get a job!" and stomps off, looking self-righteous. The mother is floored. An apologetic glance to the musician, a puzzled look at her child, and then a short message about the vitality of musical and artistic education in the US. When I saw it the first time, the commercial stopped me in my tracks. No commercial actively broadcast in my life has hit me so hard, and it is only with the benefit of history that any other advert has exceeded it. I was ... 11 or 12--Reagan-era Cold War--when I first saw a rebroadcast of the infamous Lyndon Johnson "countdown" commercial.

    thanx,

That advert for a completely useless e-mail/fax machine/phone/internet browser. it has a guy in a suit that has got the pattern of the unionjack (i hate that flag even more than the commercial) that is advertising a stupid fax machine type thing. I think it is an Amstrad advert.
Direct Line insurance; the music does my head in and with that stupid little phone with wheels.
    2 Best:
Stella Artois advert, this guy has just came back from the war and he goes into his father's pub and gets a pint of stella but the guy that saved his life asked for one too and his father steps on the hose comming from the pump and pretends that he has ran out of beer and gives him wine instead.
Guinness Dream Club advert, where the guy falls asleep in the pub and starts dreaming about a massive wall with the meaning of life behind it and everyone if fighting to see through a hole.

i generally hate all adverts but some i like, although despite what everyone says i dont think adverts make me want to go out and actually buy the product.

There's a new commercial out that I loved the first time I saw it.

The scene opens with the camera focusing on an old, tired looking lamp. The melodramatic music plays as you see a woman pick up the lamp. She walks outside in the night as the rain poors down and places the old lamp down on a cardboard box. The woman picks up a new lamp from a box in her house and places it where the old lamp was. The camera moves backwards out the window with the new lamp still in view until the foreground shows the rain again beating down on the old lamp. Then the camera sharply turns to a small, blonde, German man with glasses on (you know, the stereotypical 1980's modern artsy type). The man looks right at the camera with an odd look on his face; almost a cross between disgust and confusion. He says "Most of you are probably feeling sorry for this lamp... That is because you are crazy. It is a lamp, it has no feelings. And the new one is much better." in a very condescending voice. It's bloody hilarious the first time you see it.

    What if ...?

There's a stellar new ad campaign afoot from the Ad Council called "Campaign for Freedom". It's most chintzy ad is "Main Street USA", which shows a row of houses, and then a row of houses with American flags, and waxes heartfelt-patriotic. However, there are a couple of commercials in this campaign which are really cool. In one, a person is arrested for some ridiculous crime; I saw it a few weeks ago and can't remember it exactly. However, last night, I saw another spot in which four guys in a diner are having a conversation. One guy starts talking about taxes being too high, and his friends immediately try to hush him. The guy is getting upset, though, and insists on making his point. Embarrassed, frightened, the friends look around and notice that everyone is watching them. One of the guys turns back to the tax complainer and says, "Bob, come on. Do you really want to ruin your life?" And then the screen and a narrator ask the question: What if America wasn't America?

I think it was the right commercial for the times.

Funny thing is, the Ad Council used to be the US Propaganda Department.

    thanx,
    Tiassa

There used to be a commerical for Foster Farms Chicken where they were showing this beautiful little town that looked like Mayberry (like a sweet old town out of the 1950s) talking about how beautiful the town these chickens were raised in (although I'm always concerned with the upbringing of my dead chicken!). I used to live by this town and it was nothing like that! Foster Farms is right off a major freeway and as you drive by you smell this chicken smell, not a very pretty area.

    Favorite:

The carpet commercial with the kid eating in the high chair. It is rather old now but it was a good one and the Budwiser frogs and gator and the Louie and Frank ones that Budwiser does.

    Favorite to hate:

The Dell commercials featuring the yoyo with "Dude your goona get a Dell (up side the head) and the carrot top ones...

Definatly agree with you on that one. Plus their PC's are way too expensive and they're not that good either.

Why is it that most Beer adverts are quite good?

Remember the John Smith ones with Jack Dee? They were funny

ahh bowflex commercial, pisses me off its the worst and they it broadcasts whenever I'm watching tv.

but whats worse; you're watching tv not really paying that much attention and all of a sudden a show comes on, and you say to yourself "i was watching something?"

The bowflex commercials have gotten better but they still suck. I'm thinking that the only way to get them to stop slamming me with their advertisements is to actually buy their fucking product.

I really hate those computer literacy commercials, with the bald guy who can't read a f*cking que card. "Trai mai produkt."

I also hate anything having to do with the 'Invention Channel.' They were part of the electric abs craze that was shot down a few months ago, so now I know that anything they sell is a total waste of money. I think I heard that Billy Mays lives around the area that I do, so I'll make sure to douse his house in orange clean, to make him stop doing shitty commercials.

Propaganda from the Ad Council has taken my sister. She remarked one day "I like this commercial" when the one with the flags came on. Not that I really cared, for all intents and purposes she's all theirs.

I'd have to say that the Nike commercials by far are the coolest, the warming up and the baseball distance ones.

Saw one for a phone a while back. It starts out with a guy, around college age, waking up and yawning. He proceeds to jump into his pool for a morning swim and he's enjoying every moment of it. He's backstroking and spitting out water as he swims. Then he hears his phone ring and swims to the edge to pick it up. Camera zooms into the phone and a picture is forming on his screen. His 4 friends decided to send him a digital picture of them pissing in the pool wiht big grins on their faces...hehe

I think I posted this somewhere before, but my favourite is the John West bearfight. I have it on my comp and would recommend downloading it if you can.

My most hated commercial is the one with the racoon who eats the apple and mom and pop racoon applaud him for eating the apple instead of the mysterious mushroom (or whatever it was).
