My friend showed me this movie of a nuclear test, and I was wondering what causes the little streamer clouds that shoot upwards from around ground zero...

Any idea?

Are they shooting upwards or falling downwards?

I'm not sure...when the nuke explodes, the screen goes white, fades back in, and they're just... there, ya know? Then they just fade away.
They fire rockets into the air, if you look at other test footage you'll probably see horizontal ones as well. Each smoke trail is a set distance apart, it helps them measure the size of the explosion, and to calculate the yield.

they look like those guns from Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Yeah, people seen the Atomic Bomb when they were testing it..
Yeah, people seen the Atomic Bomb when they were testing it.. Thousands, from what I know. The Army would have soldiers crouch in trenches a safe distance away while the bomb went off. I think it was part of training them to deal with a nuclear battlefield.
And then they had to walk into the "crater", to see that its nothing to be afraid.
... back, when they didnīt know about that little radiation.
