West Nile Virus a result of terrorism?

Well me being in Florida, this started over a year ago. Mosquitoes have always been a problem, especially in the more swamp like and humid areas of the state (oooouuuu, tropical jungle down south

Anyhow, I think it started, at first animals were getting it. People would find dead birds laying around, then they would call the animal health department. When the department came and colloected the corpse, and brought it back to the lab to test it for diseases, they started noticing a few had West Nile.

I don't know if this was ever found in america become. Mosquitoes, depending on where they live in the US, can transmit all kinds of diseases. Mostly though Lime Disease and Hay Fever I think. And I believe squirrels can carry Rabies if they have been infected by ticks. Don't hold me to this, but I don't think there was ever a reported case of West Nile 5 years ago in the entire US history except from people who came from forgein countries.

The Nile River is in Africa, and I know over there, Malaria kills people all of the time.

I used to volunteer at a Veterinarians office about a year ago. West Nile virus in itself doesn't in itself always kill people. It is usually only elderly people or people with weak immune systems that die from it; and then only once it has gone into Encephalitis (inflamation of the brain). Usually it can be cured if it is caught in time.

Also, alot of people's own immune systesms will develope antibodies to it and they will become immune to that strand for the rest of their life.

Of course you can be bitten by a mosquito and not get anything at all but lose a drop of blood. It depends if the particular mosquito has been infected.

But, why is West Nile popping up in places it never has before, like outside of Florida? And, what about all of those train accidents 5 months ago? Are the terrorists trying to do more small damage and hit us in weak spots to lower or morale? If this is a result of terrorism, they haven't used any big attacks like 9/11 and instead of tried different means.

A train accident can kill 500 people, but I these didn't result in that. Maybe the train wasn't derailed to a great extent off a cliff, or maybe there weren't that many people on board; or they were in a different cabin where they were thrown against a wall and injured, but by luck not killed.

I believe West Nile can only be spread through Mosquito bites, so it is ok to have sex. If this is a result of terrorism, I guess either the terrorist are experimenting with different tactics, or aren't doing their research into the matters.

Though I did hear from FBI profilers and scientific Investigators on Court TV, they do not suspect Al Quida is responsible for the Anthrax attacks. *shrug*

They just said on the News, a US Senator suspects West Nile is a result of terrorism.

Just thought I'd point this out to see if you guys think maybe they're trying to spread WNV.

Why would terrorists use the WNV? There are other more dangerous virusses around.

 

If I was capable of creatign a virus, and if I had a serious grudge against the USA, I would create one which would not kill too quickly, but would cause some form of drain on that country while continuing to spread further and further. If that virus would have some effect on the larger population much later, all the better.

 

You mean an airborne version of the ebola virus or something? If i were capable and had a grudge i would atleast make a virus that is airborn

IF (and i dont think it is, but..) this were a *terrorist cospiriacy*.. imagine how it could blow up in their faces?? the us. along with the majority of the countrys ( i think "developed" is the word im looking for here. but im not sure.)would all have vaccinations for this. and those countries that have fallen behind... all those little middle eatern countried, and the countries that havn't found a way produce anything worth producing (yes claqrentavious, im sorry, but i talking about your starving african babies here) would shrivel up and die off, and, while im sure selfish-ness and chaos would reign between the countries for w hile, i think in the end we'd pull it together like proper educated beings, and the cow heard would move a little bettwr for it.

I think unless terrorist are doing a major strike, their objective is to decrease american morale. That's why when they were talking about nukes, they were talking about dirty bombs to make people sick, not warheads that cause a gargantuan mushroom of smoke and wipe out cities (instead a smaller number of people would be exposed to cancer).

 

I don't think that will decrease moraleby much though. Bringing in an airborn virus wich we have no immunity for will get the morale down though (i sure do not hope any terrorist is reading this). People die of cancer all the time a small decrease in that would hardly be noticeble not to mention we can cure some forms of cancer.

hey, im suprised you understood the first one. im not good at putting my thoughts into words, and what makes sense to me, usually doesn't make sense to others. lol. although, the touch-screen comment was aimed more tward clarentavious.
in short: i can be hot-tempered and destructive at times, and i think it would be great to have a touch screen map with cities to fix.

If it is part of a terrorism plan, maybe they were just practicing? Using WNV as a test model of whether or not a virus that affects both animals and humans could be carried around the U.S. via birds (via skeeters, too). I dunno, it's possible

Edit: They wouldnt need viruses or other bioweapons in their possession, and once the birds and skeeters had it, the virus or bacteria could dessimate (sp?) itself. No devices needed

Yes but why the hell would they choose a virus like that? If you take a more aggresive virus it will spread aswell and like i said take an airborn one it's less controlable. I do not think terrorist are behind this virus, it prolly escaped from some research facility or something.

hmph. i always figured it was caused by the bacteria from pollution an poor conditions of the nile, and that birds carried it from there. i mean.. its like one big septic field.

 

Maybe they wanted to practice the bird/mosquito delivery system, without getting too much public/media attention? If they had a hemmorraghic fever type virus, people would think "OMG TERRORISTS" more than "Oh, its a bird virus". Know what i mean?
