So it seems that this hollywood superstar is on the lam, having himself been scammed by people who persuaded him that he wasn't really a US citizen, or that there is no such thing as the Federal Government, or some other completely spurious reason for not paying his taxes.

Maybe he isn't. Why else did he use a fake South African passport to visit the country when US citizens can travel there visa free? (Although he lost that privilege afterwards...)
Poor Wesley Snipes has been declared an “undesirable person” by South Africa. Not in the sense that he is not attractive (obviously that’s totally incorrect), but in the sense that he was travelling around on a forged South African passport. Reuters reported “Snipes was stopped at Johannesburg airport on June 1 after immigration officials noted a problem with his passport number. “During the interview it was established that Mr. Snipes did in fact have fraudulent South African documentation in his possession,” the Department of Home Affairs said in a statement. Snipes, who also had a valid US passport, was allowed to depart but was officially declared an “undesirable person”, meaning that unlike most US citizens he will have to apply for visas for future visits to South Africa. It raises the question, obviously, why did he feel the need to get a fraudulent passport to travel in a country he didn’t need a visa for anyway? Reuters and Snipes are both silent on this count.
