Ok.....I am back and once again at a major loss as to what I am doing...so if you have any ideas, share em with me please???

This is my problem...when I went into the updates, Microsoft told me I needed one that was "critical" so believin everythin i read i dl'ed it....I dont know if somethin went wrong with the download or if my kids have messed with the settins on here but when I went back into to do the rest of the downloads microsoft said my computer needed....it comes up as "Administrators Only" and wont let me access any other downloads this computer may need...I am thinkin it is about time i took a baseball bat to it???

So how is my question...how do I lose the "Administrator Only" because this is a home computer and second of all...wtf did I do wrong???????

Thank you all so much for all your assistance....I really do appreciate it.

Well first off it's important that you understand that when Microsoft calls it a "critical update" that means that it's pretty unessisary, you yourself won't notice any difference, but you'll have to spend a good half hour downloading it anyway, so no matter what happens don't worry TOO much about these downloads.

Now, as for the "administrator only" thing, can you give a little more information? Does this message appear in the browser window or does a seperate little window pop up telling you that you can't download it?

If it appears in the browser window I have no bloody idea what's up, if it's a seperate thing that pops up then chanses are someone has screwed with your user account settings and denied you the ability to download and install software.

Hiya Mystech ~smiles~ thank you for answerin me plea for help lol...

Ok this is wa it says...a lil window pops up and it says

    "quote"

Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly.

    "unquote"

So when I click ok it comes up with the bloody Administrators Only.

Ahh interesting. What browser are you using?

(it would seem to me now that it may be a problem with the settings in your browser. . .)

I remember someone else having problems accesing those sites after an update too, could you give me the name of the patch you installed?

Is the Admin only thing when you try to install something? In that case login as "administrator" and install it.

I have not run across this one persay, but it sounds like your Internet Explorer settings may have gotten messed up (I assume that's the browser that you are using- the one that came with the computer.)

If you open Internet Explorer, Tools menu, Internet Options. Click ont he security tab, then click on "custom" at the bottom of the window. scroll down a little bit, to "Run ActiveX controls and Plugins" see if that says "enabled", and report back, please. *don't change anything yet, though!*

If, it is "enabled", then there may be something funky with the patch you installed, as Bachus asked, do you remember what the name of the patch was?

As far as I know there is but because this stupid bloody thing is set as "Administrator Only" I cant do shit on it, I can't even see wa the last udate was. I have tried to change the settin's but nothin is workin...she is truely in a poor state of affairs and slowly gettin worse. The latest is when I log on and it automatically goes to IE it tells me Explorer Error, I click ok...and then another box comes up sayin Explorer Error again and if the problem continues please reboot.....but alas it dont matter how many times I reboot I get the same thing. I have since discovered that so long as I dont press ok on the second box that comes up I can get onto this site to rack your guys brains for any advice you can give me. Do you think I have picked up a virus along the way that is messin with everythin on here or am I just dealin with a "critical" update that went haywire???

I'm going to mention this since it could be of use.

I had a 500mhz system that I kept trying to install an OS on. Everytime I installed it came up with something new that failed during it's install process. It even at one point tried to call a folder "c:\wifdows", which wasn't a spelling mistake or bug.

What it actually turned out to be in the end was the very RAM that was in the computer had become corrupt.

RAM can be corrupted through various reasons rangeing from power surges generated through the power socket to wrongly configured BIOS's and lastly Long term usage.

[Namely leaving your computer own for too long with loads of things loaded and events running will eventually wear away your RAM]

The answer might be here to look towards getting new RAM for your PC(s).

If your running a PIII PC, then I would suggest you run P133 instead of P100 RAM (which can also be a problem since one type allows faster usage than the other, which means P100 can corrupt easily)

This will not fix the problem you have with what you have loaded, but it will lower the chances of corrupt installations in the future.
