CNN) -- The CIA has in its hands the critical parts of a key piece of Iraqi nuclear technology -- parts needed to develop a bomb program -- that were dug up in a back yard in Baghdad, CNN has learned.

U.S. officials emphasized this was not evidence Iraq had a nuclear weapon -- but it was evidence the Iraqis concealed plans to reconstitute their nuclear program as soon as the world was no longer looking.

The parts and documents Obeidi gave the CIA were shown exclusively to CNN at CIA headquarters in Virginia.

Obeidi told CNN the parts of a gas centrifuge system for enriching uranium were part of a highly sophisticated system he was ordered to hide to be ready to rebuild the bomb program.

Obeidi said he felt unsafe in Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion and that he was getting pressure from different corners of the country.

He also said other Iraqi scientists were watching to see if he was safe after he cooperated with the U.S. government.

Now that he and his family are safely out of Iraq, Obeidi said he believes other scientists would come forward with other components of Iraq's weapons program.

Well look at what they found.

Thaug, you need to look at What Really Happened (http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/). When their server comes back up, I'll post the images, but the basic story is that the CIA have recovered parts which can make up about a third of a gas centrifuge from under someone's rose bushes. A working program would require tens of thousands of working centrifuges, which is a rather sizable affair.

Frankly, if you expect me to believe that some parts the CIA dug up from beneath a rose bush comprise proof of an extant WMD program, you're more naive than Bush could hope for.

I am certain that the administration will attempt to cite this as evidence that Saddam had a nuclear program, and that the invasion was justified on these grounds. To me, it proves the exact opposite - and we need to clearly state that. Bush claimed repeatedly that Saddam was reconstituting his nuclear program. However, the fact that these key components were undisturbed for 12 years would indicate that he was not.

:m: Peace.

Okay, here are the images.
This is what the CIA have found:
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/cnncentrifuge.jpg

And this is what an actual gas centrifuge plant looks like:
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/uscentrifuge.jpg

It's in the US, and it takes up 750 acres, because it needs more than just that one centrifuge, it needs thousands of centrifuges to produce enough u-235 to make a bomb in less time than it takes for the sun to explode....

http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/centri.jpg

And that's not to mention the additional gear that's needed apart from the centrifuge...

Well done Sparks on the research!

Needless to say most of my RepubliCON buddies are already on the "we found em" bandwagon hours after this went on CNN.

It will be interesting to see if/what comments our fearless pResident has on this awesome discovery.

you think little details like that will stop the adminstration using it, didnt think so ^_^
Also the sad fact is the majority will swallow this hook line sinker yatch and harbour just so they can sleep better at night.

Hell they could of found an old hub cab and claimed it was used as the base of a centrefugal disk for creating WMD and a lot of ppl will swallow it.

Buried deep inside the same story from Yahoo is the following shocker:US troops also discovered about 300 sacks of castor beans, which are used to make the deadly biological agent ricin, hidden in a warehouse in the town of al-Aziziyah, southeast of Baghdad, according to NBC News. Hey man, the stuff looks like I could dig it up at my local dumpstore, so actually I believe this is a TRUE story, cause even the CIA wouldn't be stupid enough to try to fool the public with a few scraps of metal , wouldn't they?

That took a while for the 'white' house to jump on the wagon...

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/06/26/sprj.irq.white.house/index.html

The White House said Thursday that the CIA's procurement of centrifuge parts in Iraq -- equipment needed in a nuclear weapons program -- bolsters President Bush's assertion that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

Arrogance, stupidity and 'pride' knows no limit.

AS usual, the problem is taht the pro war people forget that nobody denies that saddam had a WMD program, what we all deny is that is was funcitoning properly any time in the last 10 years since GW1. Also, that his extant WMD were mostly destroyed during/ just after GW1, and the informaiton to reconstitute it kept. But of course, information is not the asme as possessing WMDs ready to fire in 45 mins is it. So, again the pro war campaigners fall down.

You’re putting words into my mouth. I never said they could make a bomb from this.

If you read the article it doesn’t say that with just this you can enrich the uranium required for a nuclear bomb. It does prove that they were breaking the UN rules by hiding it. They had the material to start a nuclear program and the research documents that would save Saddam years of research and millions of dollars.

The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant doesn’t produce material for 1 or 2 nuclear weapons it along with 3 other plants helped produce a suspected amount of 10,656 nuclear weapons. Also these are not the same kind of nuclear weapon used on Hiroshima these weapons that the USA made are 100 to 1,000 times more powerful. They are also more compact so they can fit in 10 MIRVs into an ICBM. That means they have to be built better. I don't recall though anybody saying that Saddam was trying to get anywhere near that amount of a nuclear arsenal.

Also Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant which was constructed in the 50s also does gaseous diffusion to enrich uranium, not gas centrifugation, because gas centrifugation was made feasible in the early 1960s. Gas centrifugation has a higher yield much larger separation factors than gas diffusion so you need less gas centrifuges then you would gas diffusions. So using that example has nothing to do with this topic.

CNN Security Correspondent David Ensor reports that the concealment of such materials -- and failure to disclose their presence -- would have constituted violations of Security Council regulations under U.N. sanctions in place in 1991.

He was supposed to be disarming that is why we put weapon inspectors in Iraq. By him hiding such material it shows that he was not actively disarming.

Actually Thaug, the UN disagrees with you, as pointed out in the link I provided. The fact that those parts were buried and had not been retrieved while the weapons inspectors were not in Iraq shows Hussein was in fact complying with the UN.

Well look at what they found.

They found an 11 year old relic and nothing more!*

*In a country without MIRACLE GROW they seem inclined to use anything in their rose garden's. :o

We need to check the rose garden at the Whitehouse and see if we can find anything incriminating also, huh folks?

Probably a few pairs of Monica's VICTORIA SECRET collectible 44DD brassiere's, huh? :p
