Many people try to cover up this bias by pretending to be neutral - but of course the bias surfaces sooner or later.

However, I am inclined to think that it's not her doing that she is/was so popular.

The way she speaks does at least this:

1. Pushes many people's buttons so they get rather emotional around her - and then as they try to remedy the emotional, they tend to fall into pity, patronizing, denial - all of these attaching them to the notion of Gendanken, talking about her. It's a negative attachment, but negative publicity is still publicity.

2. Addresses many people doubts, insecurities, grey zones, things they would rather hide from others and even from themselves. People tend to automatically develop a love-hate attachment to such people, which can result in a lot of talking.

3. She comes across as sexually aggressive. The attention of many men, and some women, both positive and negative attention, is thereby secured.
